i could see the appeal for minnesota... but are they offloading Randle in this? fox/edwards backcourt would be insane, particularly in transition

for toronto... doesnt seem great with Barnes being the primary guy. quickley is decent, but he's been hurt all year, which sucks for them.

Spurs saying Keldon is a core player. Sac saying there’s no deal without Castle I hope people here are more savvy than to believe these things.

wouldn't surprise me if the Kangz view a Sabonis/Randle/DeRozan combo as a "winning core"

Good god... we're so ed I hope this is just nonsense and none of these dudes are actually plugged in because if PATFO really believes guys like Jones and Keldon are core players, Wemby is definitely not staying here forever
somebody here mentioned that Pop thought Keldon, Vassell and Sochan were "one star player away" from contending. Then again he also thought Plumlee was better than Bam Adebayo and that Forbes was Steph Curry

    Sochan,Vassell, Jones, Johnson core lol

Spurs are such an unserious organization. What? They think they’re going to use the power of “Friendship” to win a championship.

Keldon makes them laugh? Great, because he makes anyone who likes winning cry.

Yea definitely feels like posturing from both sides. Typical two-stepping before someone’s willing to fold first. Trade deadline needs to hurry up and get here tbh.

In that case, they're free to choose between Randle, Barrett and Herro.

a lot of interesting inside information in this video from a Spurs reporter. Apparently the Spurs view Castle, Sochan, Vassell, Keldon Johnson and Tre Jones as part of the core. Keldon especially cause of what he does off the floor. He's the locker room leader and he's very funny and everybody laughs with him. I can't with the apporach of this organization. How about valuing on court production?

Multiple people are also saying that Pop is back at the practice facility. The Spurs were also looking at the Bulls' fire sale.

Sidy Cissoko and Riley Mannix should also be off-limits. I might *might* consider offering David Duke and a conditional 20131 SRP (protected 1-59 obviouslY)

Lmao at the idea of KJ being untouchable, let alone Tre Jones. That is laughably out of touch and if out FO really thinks this way then we are in for a brutal wake up call.

Good thing about the kings is their front office going to leak things left and right. Minnesota with no picks and Toronto with their milk bags are not legitimate options

Toronto with buyer's remorse on Quickley already? Ouch

And Minnesota is a joke. They have no picks, period. Randle isn't coveted by anyone, just sad.

I think Castle can become a legit #2 scorer, if given the chance. In the 23 games he's played 25+ minutes (I assume he'd get at least that much PT as a #2), he is averaging 15.7 pts, 3.8 ast, and 2.9 rbs. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out, but that level of production is not too far off from the 16/5/5 you're projecting.

IF the sample size is indicative of his baseline, a bump in his efficiency or attempts should get him into the 17-18ppg range, while an improvement in both would make becoming a 20ppg scorer likely, imo
You are correct - my projection is more based on projected future role though. I think whether it be Fox or someone else (or even Vassell ascending) I don't see Castle as our #2 role, which is going to limit his ability to be a consistent 20ppg scorer. I think there have only been four teams with three 20ppg scorers since 1990? So that 16/5/5, "Derrick White" type is what I see as kind of an ideal projection. If he ends up being a 20ppg+ guy, I don't see us progressing as a team quite as nicely, because he doesn't present a style of offensive gameplay that is conducive to offensive potency in the modern NBA. I struggle to find a comp of a 20ppg scorer for him, which is kind of how I settled on Derrick White (which don't get me wrong, I love Derrick and would love to have him back - he's a stud who was just with us at the wrong time in history).

So... do I think Castle is capable? Yeah. But I don't think that's ideal, personally.

That's Don Harris' podcast, he's one of the least plugged in sources for Spurs news in San Antonio and is basically just a Spurs yes man.

The rental thing is not real. Just a talk track for Fox Klutch to get what they want. Too much money to lose without Bird rights.

In my mind, when looking at the PROS for each team, by time block, it’s:

    Trade Deadline:
    SAC: Best return in value
SA: can lock in Fox and eliminate the compe ion

    Summer:
SAC: more teams interested, because (assuming) Fox becomes more open to other teams because he won’t want to lose Bird money. This in theory raises trade value with greater supply of bidders.
SA: Lower offer to SAC vs Feb deadline (but still has to beat the increase in compe ion). This is where IMO things get dicey. Specifically, Fox has to keep tooting the “SA-only” horn or we may end up bidding the same or higher than Feb deadline offer. Also, SA is crystal clear on 2025 draft order, which eliminates risk.

    2026:
I’m not clear what happens here if we go into 2025-26 season and he’s still on the Kings, and how that looks for us. But I assume he at least gets moved by the trade deadline.

    What did I miss?
Good breakdown. I think the only thing missing is that you have "SA crystal clear on 2025 draft order, which eliminates risk" as a Pro on the SA side, but it also does have the potential to create some value erosion. Once those picks are locked in at, say, 9 and 10, then lose value versus today where they carry a real chance of being Top 4. On the flip side, if one or both convey in the Top 4, they increase in value significantly and maybe you could get Fox for "even cheaper" in terms of the number of picks. Maybe it's just salary filler and pick #4 that gets the deal done (assuming the Spurs wanted to do that).

I could definitely see a scenario where if both picks land in the top 4 (which is very unlikely) that the Spurs would put one of them up for sale. As cool as adding Flagg and Bailey or Edgecomb sounds, I'm not sure that the Spurs would be as keen (I could see them keeping Flagg and Harper if their board is similar to mine). Of course, we have no clue what their board looks like and who they value.

That's the only other obvious dynamic that I think is missing from your breakdown.

Since their "insider" if ing Dusty Garza, I wouldn't put too much stock into this. This dude is a clown who just regurgitates any rumor he hears. I even know another Spurs reporter who "leaked" fake information just to see if Dusty would report it as breaking news, and sure enough he did

Dusty also threatens to sue people who call him out for being a dumbass. I would say I'm shocked that any reputable news outlet would have him on, but then I saw it was Chuck Miketinac
