I started watching late then once the Spurs score was stuck on 15 began fast forwarding to only Spurs made baskets. Wemby’s dumb and lazy play kind of defeats the purpose of watching.
This performance was predictable.
Culturally, the Spurs lack consistent effort, hustle, attention to detail, a commitment to defense, and above all, accountability for these deficiencies. This has been the case for years. As Popovich aged, he mellowed out of being a hardass stickler for “playing the right way” and got wrapped up in how much he enjoyed his relationships with the players. Now that he is old and sick, with no way to know when or whether he is coming back, the Spurs effectively are headless. Mitch Johnson is a figurehead. The Holt kids lack the for ude to make any decisions.
Despite all this, the team has the foundation in place for a contender if they don’t fritter it away. Wemby, Fox, and Castle are a core of stars to build around. From here, they have to establish leadership, establish an iden y, get rid of the players who are bad for the culture, namely Vassell and Johnson, and build around their core of stars with defensive-minded role players.
That may not happen though. The Holts may be too afraid of their shadows and too cowed by the memory of what Pop used to be to make any decisions and so the team may just remain stuck in neutral and underachieving until Wemby gets tired of it and leaves.

Wemby himself has backslid into the dysfunctional culture.

It's the #1 requirement to be an elite wing these days. Nephew and PG do it every ing time as well and it's almost never called.
