If semi-analysis is correct, the hyped training cost was too low by a lot --

serious, concerted effort and are by no means a “side project” as many in the media claim. We are confident that their GPU investments account for more than $500M US dollars, even after considering export controls

industry analyst firm SemiAnalysis reports that the company behind DeepSeek incurred $1.6 billion in hardware costs and has a fleet of 50,000 Nvidia Hopper GPUs, a finding that undermines the idea that DeepSeek reinvented AI training and inference with dramatically lower investments than the leaders of the AI industry.

DeepSeek operates an extensive computing infrastructure with approximately 50,000 Hopper GPUs, the report claims. This includes 10,000 H800s and 10,000 H100s, with additional purchases of H20 units, according to SemiAnalysis. These resources are distributed across multiple locations and serve purposes such as AI training, research, and financial modeling. The company's total capital investment in servers is around $1.6 billion, with an estimated $944 million spent on operating costs, according to SemiAnalysis.

A GD disgrace is what it is.
It is. He'll change his tune when Trump starts buying bitcoin. I'll probably forgive him, he's pretty funny.

Meta and Microsoft have already liberated themselves from several data center leases. It looks like companies like CoreWeave are trying to exist as GPU power providers for the actual AI companies. Folks don't seem so bullish on that so far; we'll have to see if it's because CW is a company or if it's the first domino.

Would have been great 45 years ago before our manufacturing sector got hollowed out by St Ronnie, Bush, and Clinton. Now it's closing the barn door when the horse is three towns over. Anyone with a room temperature IQ can see this is just Trump pushing what is effectively a really high sales tax to shift the tax burden further on to the people and then lower taxes on the robber barons.

what happens to all the PI DOGE hoovered up?

do they really need access to the federal payroll database too?

isn't it enough that DOGE already hacked the US Treasury system of payment and is about to hack Social Security?

Because your statement is a carbon copy of my statement about that subject. We let the auto industry go back in the '70's. Our morning after regret a half century later is folly.

The old man genuinely believes he can grab jacks & timbers and start back down. He also believed that in '17 on the New York to Boston [train track trail of tears] and found out that it was impossible after all.

I don't blame him for trying though. (It) emantes from his heart.
