not that trade deficits are even a bad thing, to be fair. but hilarious that this seems to be the catalyst for the tariffs

I did another fun little experimental order from China. Returned to the vendor after about six days. The first order I made during the start of all this bull actually was delivered even thought the shipper said it had been returned to China. I think it may have been one of those instances where we couldn't even collect the tariffs anyway because Trump can't do anything right.

I do feel sorry for the businesses who are getting completely ed by this stupid, stupid non-policy.

there is no process. There is no plan. This is Iraq all over again.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Yahoo Finance on Tuesday that he was optimistic about "clarity" on tariffs and progress on key trade deals over the next 90 days, as President Trump simultaneously sought to ramp up pressure on China to come to the negotiating table.

"Let's set aside China. There are 15 large trading partners. We set aside China," Bessent told Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi. There are 14, and we're in rapid motion and setting up a process for the 14 largest trading partners."

He added: "I think if we follow the process, we could have substantial clarity on those 14 away from China in terms of agreements in principle. And then once we reach a level that we've agreed on and they've agreed to lower their tariffs, lower their non-tariff barriers, currency manipulation, and subsidies of industry and labor, then I think we can move forward."

If it brings positive value to the equation, I don't care who does it of how you want to label it. The point here is that Trump didn't give this "handout". Biden did.

Whinehole used to be all in on tariffs...claimed he was a Whig
Tariffs were just one prong of Henry Clay's American System: national works (infrastructure) and a national bank (to capitalize the frontier, to stabilize the currency and " to knit the country together") were the others. Our own history shows that if not carefully calibrated, tariffs can be ruinous.

But we've basically always had them, the US Customs House was the moneymaker in the 1900s.

I guess if CC Wei had a bunch of his minions invaded the federal government, wrecked all its functionality for regular citizens and stole all my information, I'd be upset about that too.

    Did he do that, snacks?

Please answer yes or no like a man.

beef was becoming less unaffordable before Trump's tariff fiasco

Beef's issues go back to at least 2014. Bred cow market is collapsing, too much work for historically little payback. Herd is still shrinking and was well before Trump. Cow/calf is not something that can consolidated with confinement or cheap labor easy. History of leaving the livestock group out to dry when it comes to limiting risk/disaster aid. I know guys in their 30's that are cashing out because of the burnout. You'll have a wore out body by the time you're 50. Even with the market in all time high prices THE COW HERD IS STILL SHRINKING. Beef isn't nearly high enough to promote that YET. Guys are going to have to get used to pork and chicken and give up the steaks and burgers.
