The San Antonio Spurs traded Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks on June 29, 2022, as part of a larger deal involving multiple draft picks. In exchange for Murray, the Spurs received Danilo Gallinari, a 2023 first-round pick (protected), a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 pick swap, and a 2027 first-round pick. The Hawks also acquired center Jock Landale in the deal.

Assets are about to start landing, we’ll soon start to know how good of a trade this was.

^ That, plus one of those assets was basically used in the Fox deal.

What? We've known since the deal happened that this was a terrific trade for the Spurs, and a horrific trade for the Hawks.

Whether one of the three first-round picks the Spurs obtained for DJ lands on the lottery or not has no bearing on what a resounding success the trade was/has been. Is the return analysis this shallow?

The Spurs not only acquired numerous valuable assets for a player they were interested in shipping off anyways to truly kickstart their tank; they also managed to sell on Dejounte at his all-time-greatest value, and he's visibly declined as both a perceived player and asset since the trade, never coming close to his All-Star form that the Spurs sold on.

The trade also had the surplus benefit of directly made the Hawks worse since the DJ/Trae pairing was doomed to fail, again in the Spurs' best interest since they now owned the Hawks' immediate future draft assets.

There is no angle where this was anything but a home run for the Spurs, tbh. We can goalpost-move and talk about "exactly how good" the picks turn out to be, but it's almost an asinine talking point.

As a sidenote, each time I think of how good this trade was, I'm irked at how skillfully the Hawks managed to get out of their hole with the Dyson trade. Wasn't that done by the GM they just fired? Poverty franchise stuff, as usual...

Oh, as to the point of this thread -- yeah, someone's off their meds today

But tbh, I don't mind the crashout; the threads on Spurstalk servers repeatedly mentioned the value in ST historical threads, but we hardly (me at least) if ever actually take a look at them. I enjoy seeing the bumped threads and throwbacks.

I'd actually love for a more dedicated poster to make an assortment of historical or "classic Spurstalk" posts. Would be great to crack a beer and go through the pages, IMO.

Either he’s trolling or genuinely having a meltdown, neither would surprise me lol. Should have just done a fake retirement thread like RJ24.

There’s good basketball discussion to read but this site is also so -posty at times. I don’t why some people take this place so seriously or even care about their reputation on here. Go to Reddit for that .

i would agree but reddit is unbearably bad imo. its all just "our guys are amazing" and very surface level

this place has a lot of posting and some... interesting... personalities. but if you are willing to pour through i dont think theres better spurs content/analysis than ST

that's my usual defense of this forum. yes, there are a lot of terrible posts and threads, and dip s (yes, ducks, that would be you), but there is also a lot of great information shared, good analysis and, if I need to find a place where I can get some information about cap space, aprons, contracts, trade and draft prospect profiles, this is the place. i'm convinced that the so called local sports journalist hacks lurk on this site to get their info.

Not only locals, I think it has been proven that even ESPN journalists steal takes from spurstalk. Besides that TimVP became a nation wide Spurs news source sometime last year

When is he ever not having a meltdown? He might be the most unhinged person on here.
