Wow, Carter Bryant really seems like a bright, humble hard-worker. Gotta love that.

The Spurs are getting closer to being a real basketball team. MLE and BAE options could give us some much needed bigman depth. Maybe even trade back into the 2nd round with our plethora of picks and add Fleming, Raynaud or Kalkbrenner.
I see no place for Malaki Branham on this roster.

As for the rest of last night's festivities:

    - Portland WTF? Sam Bowie, Greg Oden and now Hansen Yang. Unbelievable gamble. Being publicly and acrimoniously cursed by Jrue Holiday makes their choice all the more laughable. Maybe Clingan is gettable?

    - New Orleans WTF is their plan? Maybe a trade is coming? Maybe a train wreck is coming? Giving Atlanta next year's unprotected 1st to move up for Derik Queen is delusional. Without knowing the cap complexities, makes me wonder if there's a way to rescue TMIII from this toxic gumbo of an organization.

    - Atlanta is building something formidable in a very open Eastern Conference. They are taking a calculated risk by adding Asa Newell. Those traded picks might suck for the Spurs. They might get a top 3 pick next year. Shrewd GM-ing.

    - Sacramento didn't embarrass themselves and got a player in Clifford that will likely contribute right away.

    - OKC nabbing Sorber will give us a firsthand chance to see what we might've missed by getting Bryant, who was much higher on the Spurs Big Board.

    - Toronto over-reaching for CMB was another head-scratcher.
Really solid takes all around… you really summed up the draft here!

Super happy the spurs didn’t do anything stupid and drafted Harper.

I wasn’t as high on Carter Bryant because I think he is more of a project. He has really high upside but I wanted someone that could help right away. I think this proves the Spurs truly are playing the long game. My positive spin would be it looks like the Spurs brought in the perfect assistants to help develop his defense. 3 and D off-ball players are gold for the Spurs. Moving forward that’s going to be the prototype to build around the Fox, Harper, Castle, Wemby Core. Seems like a great kid I’ll be rooting for him to prove me wrong.

I’ve thought about it and I’m cool with the Spurs having kicked the 2nd round pick down the road. Only 4 players left that I think have a probability of making it in the NBA. Fleming, Penda, Raynaud and Thiero. I don’t expect any of them to be available by pick 38. Spurs need to bring in more vets now. Drafting a 3rd rookie that makes the team takes up a roster spot. They have plenty of players they are developing already. Focus on those developments.

Agree here. I think they figured there wasn't going to be much there at 38 and trading up wasn't likely because other teams might have seen the same thing. Like, I don't think a team in the late 1st would have traded back ten spots. So they jumped in with Indiana, a team they have an ongoing relationship with, to kick the can down the road. They got out before other teams are trying to get out.

If they want to get in on the early part of the draft, that would be a different transaction: the teams early in the SR don't want to be there later in the SR.

That Juan Nunez pick seemed stupid and wasteful at the time. And 2 years later still feels that way.
its 1 year later, but yeah

I agree with all of this! Seems like a great dude and a glue guy!
That interview was a pleasant surprise

    Carter is articulate, intelligent

Friends with Dylan, knows the family, wow

That would be great for their development, would help each as rookies......

Mom is deaf? he knows sign language? wow, his empathy skills must be off the roof!

Also, good communication skills > thats why the scouting report is postulating him as defensive playmaker

Wemby will love this teammate, mark my words.........!

    Better and better!

    ----------------------------------

    PS

And then said, "i dunno" in response to the jersey number >> humility, being open to experience, great at ude

They had to take a swing at #8, there was no point in drafting a low ceiling player for them.
I'd argue there were no legit star potential players left at that point.

The only really puzzling thing was Traore over Jakucionis, but there must be a reason he dropped to #20.

Nets will be the worst team in the league next season. If they guarantee all the rookie contracts they'll have 12 rookie contracts, Claxton, Cam Johnson and Mann on the books. With another SRP tonight.

They don't have their '27 FRP, they'll go all in for a top3 pick in '26 draft and get some big names in free agency next summer.
Sean Marks going from building that exciting Atkinson-coached team out of virtually nothing to this is quite a fall..

I’m still laughing at old ass Joe Dumars trading an unprotected 26 pick and the #23 for Derik Queen to pair him next to Zion.

NO could easily have another Zion injury and they’re a bottom 3 team in the West.

It's Top 16 protected... if Presti is gambling on Wemby's health, he's gonna lose that gamble.

    SAC did good work, tbh.
That’s the second worst protection on a FRP in maybe the last 10 years or so. GS traded a pick with top 20 protection a few years ago. That’s something you probably want to turn in a second round pick or two seconds so that you’re not stuck with the guaranteed money.

Honestly, I'm glad SAC kind of stuck it to OKC. No need for the rest of the league to roll out the red carpet for Sam Presti to continue to steamroll them. There should be an OKC Tax on every trade with them going forward... it was obvious they needed to dump that pick, so make OKC get as little value as possible for it.

Rare W by the SAC front office, tbh

Serious question... why would Chicago inform the league?

Seems more like Chicago just using Jake Fischer to make sure the rest of the teams know the pick is for sale. These reporters are now marketing agents for teams trying to get the most value in trades, tbh.

Didn't the Spurs do this announcing the #8 pick was available last year? It's a way of not having to call every single team plus possibly gets the price up showing there's a market, I guess.

Will the Spurs cough up some money for a 2nd rounder? I mean, they got cash considerations for their last pick.

I don't recall that, but maybe. I think "inform the league" means informing the rest of the other teams, as opposed to calling Adam Silver... so "league (little L)" versus "League (big L)"

The Brooklyn Nets are trading the No. 36 pick in tonight's NBA Draft to the Phoenix Suns for two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Suns now own Nos. 36, 52 and 59.

jesus ing christ. would #33 go for 3 SRP? I'd think that worth spending one of the 8 billion SRP's we have to take a flyer on Reynaud or Flemming
