Don't worry guys, Biyombo will come back.
Capela is better for sure. Overpay for Kornet. Capela deal shows that too. Honestly, IDGAF! We got what we needed!
Don't worry guys, Biyombo will come back.
4th year is a Team Option on Kornet. Good stuff.
hmmm think it's an ok signing, he's older than i thought but appeared to have plenty of spring in his legs this year. Competent, does a bit of everything, reasonably smart player. I'm ok with this.
Nah, this is good value for Kornet. He’s underrated. Solid defender.
if it’s frontloaded that’s a good deal tbh. Kornet is one of those back up bigs with an insane net rating. That‘s exactly who you need coming off the bench.
I can only guess that because both Adams and Capela lately miss a lot of games they're covering themselves. Plus maybe they'll go jumbo big for more and more stretches of the season
Otherwise it just seems like spending everything they can
Only a slight overpay, but Kornet played well last season. Probably was required to lock him in. Cs wanted to keep him.
As a third-stringer, I'd be cool with it. Then use the last two-way spot on a center prospect that shows out in the summer league.
You guys really going to be upset over a 10 million dollar a year contract and you don't even know if the final year is an option or if the whole thing is guaranteed? LOL god damn.
Very nice deal only 3 years garuanteed at about $10M per year which is like 6-7% of the cap. That’s more than fine for a quality backup C especially given Wemby will only play 32 MPG and 70 games a year imo.
Kornet will raise the IQ substantially, both B-ball and mental acuity. Super smart player with legit size.
This alone makes use significantly better. I love that they addressed backup center first. They have been reading SpursTalk, obviously.
Yabusele as a PF could make things interesting.
Absolutely! Who knew that ST is all in agreement that this is not a bad deal and we got our man!
Team option on year 4 makes a declining structure even more likely. Then it's about $31-32M guaranteed over the first three years.
Kornet's age also makes a declining contract sensible. A player's subsequent contract is limited by the final year's salary if Bird rights are involved, but this is likely the largest contract Kornet will ever get since he will be 33 or 34 at the end of it.
excellent signing. now go get yabusele.
He’s an upgrade over Zach Collins who was getting like 16 million a year lol
Yeah. I think he ends up as more than a back up C.
Ok, that makes way more sense now, even if it’s a year longer than ideal.
well, if he doesn't pan out you have a 31 yold center that never averaged more than 6ppg or reached 20mins per game in his career. Not what i would call easy to move.
We need another C, hopefully we can get a G-leaguer or a reclamation project on a minimum deal. A high energy third stringer like Bassey.
It has already been reported that the 4th year is a Team Option. So basically, it's potentially a 3yr/~$30M contract.
I'm looking in the comparison view. Who can beat what the Spurs have?
I don't see the Spurs offering any of the young guys. Fox likely has a decade left of near all star play. I was against him because of size and nature of his game depleting but he does have quite a bit left in the tank still and is a proven playoff performer. You add Giannis, the best player in the world and Wemby who's quickly entering that conversation.
Then you add Harper, and Castle as your guards. Hopefully Bryant and Sochan become something on the wing?
That's a legitimate 5-7 player core for the next 5 years at least. Everything else is moveable and you won't have many minutes outside of that core left in the playoffs that aren't straight role players.
I'm just saying I see the vision of they went that route. Picks aren't as important when you have a set 7 man rotation. Look how little half our picks play with the 7 man rotation we have now and we aren't even good.
This only works, once again, if there is legitimately no other suitors who can match what the Spurs can which I honestly don't see.
We're crossing the continental shelf, y'all. We're back in deep water.
Probably, but even then, they're overstocked at C specifically and in general period, which could lead to chemistry issues.
Don't be surprised when Kornet stops being an advanced stat darling when instead of playing in deep contending lineups in Boston he has to cover for Barnes and Keldon and Vassell all dragging their asses, getting backdoored, driven by, or not boxing out.
