Yeah I'm here for the horn meltdown.

The "well we don't want him any way" is hilarious.
literally said by some fans of every team that loses out on a recruit they got snubbed by lol

the funnier part is tech fan meltdown over the general lack of concern by most horn fans, bc everyone knows the horns will be just fine without him

Im hoping they forget about Ojo.
Some of the guys that went to Alabama should be pursued. We have flipped multiple 5 stars the last few years, and I’m betting we flip some this year too. Just not Ojo

^ if anyone asks what Tech is thinking that's it in a nuts . It's not hard to figure that Tech has to overpay to get people to Lubbock.

    Oh wait someone asked:

".....But, what is Tech thinking? Yes, Ojo is a great prospect, especially based on his upside. He is the NFL template for left tackle, but he’s not Kelvin Banks from a readiness standpoint—meaning, at what point will Tech start receiving a justifiable return on its considerable investment? It likely won’t be as a true freshman where Ojo will be adjusting to the college game. For all his gifts, he’s still pretty raw. Put simply, Tech is going to pay Ojo a lot of money to develop....."

My question is why are we the only ones out ahead of this curve?

I get the old blue bloods rolling with "We're blue blood", but not the other next tier schools like A&M or Oregon etc

When you say "ahead of the curve," are you alluding to something other than simply setting the market for the prospects that Tech/Campbell wants?

That's one aspect. Are there really no schools out there willing to match what Tech is tossing around? I mean , look what the Aggies paid for Jimbo. Why aren't they doing the same with players?

    But it started here:

"...THE GOAL GOING into December was to spend $5 million.

That was the price tag that Cody Campbell, Texas Tech's billionaire booster and the leader of The Matador Club NIL collective, initially anticipated for the Red Raiders' transfer portal haul.....

...In late November, Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire told reporters he was bringing in approximately 10 transfers for next season. McGuire, Campbell and general manager James Blanchard had spent months preparing for the Dec. 9 start of portal season. They had an ambitious plan. And then the plan worked a little too well.......

I know Campbell and other boosters sat down with McGuire/Blanchard after last season and they discussed how to improve the roster as if money was no object, and we saw how they dominated the portal after that.

Campbell also had the foresight to understand they needed to go all-in before guardrails were put in place and they could no longer spend like sailors on leave, so it makes me wonder if the deals to Ojo and others were put in place a while ago in order to avoid any scrutiny.

With money coming from every direction and programs dealing with blurred lines of legality despite the House vs. NCAA settlement, my question going forward is who will benefit most once all of this is ironed out.

Will Tech/Campbell be able to sustain an onslaught of legitimate spending, or will teams like Alabama and Georgia go back to thriving with under-the-table negotiations?

I don't have a good answer for your question above because I'm confused like many others, but it's probably a mix of teams not being able to match Tech, they don't want to or they've yet to figure out ways to do it within their own program's limitations.

With Texas specifically, I'm not sure Sark would take a blank check approach even if he could, although I'm confident losing some of these recruitments after months and years of work is quite frustrating and they're already working on new approaches.

This reminds me quite a bit of what Freeze and Ole Miss were doing in the 2013 class by disrupting the natural order of things, but Tech is doing it legally (or at least they have so far).

It'll be fascinating to watch if they plan on consistently kicking in doors on Southeast prospects and stealing out from under the noses of Alabama and Georgia.

I think they've accepted Texas is going to hand them some tough recruiting losses now that they're in the same conference, but dealing with Tech would be a different animal.

OTF mentioned Guyton may be reclassifying to 2026.

If that's the case, Tech likely made a deal with him before the settlement and I doubt Campbell is posting about him if it's not essentially done.

    Oregon should be the pick.
