There were two Black Senators in the 19th Century—both during Reconstruction.
There were also only two Black Senators in the entire 20th Century.
Senator Obama, elected 2004, was the fifth Black Senator ever.

The chairman of the Weld County GOP was arrested Thursday on su ion of soliciting a child pros ute, internet luring of a child and attempted child sex assault, all felony charges.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said Hunter Rivera, a 24-year-old who lives in Windsor, was arrested during “an operation targeting child predators.”
“Investigators posed as minors selling sexual acts on local websites and forums,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Several dozen people responded to the listings, and two men arrived at an agreed-upon location to buy sex. They were met by deputies who arrested and booked the men into the Larimer County jail.”

hug-a-thug, MAGA-style
https://www.techdirt.com/2026/05/18/...gram-for-maga/The Fund will have the power to issue formal apologies and monetary relief owed to claimants. Submission of a claim is voluntary. There are no partisan requirements to file a claim. Any money left when the Fund ceases operations will revert to the Federal Government.
The Fund will receive $1.776 billion and will come from the judgment fund, which is a perpetual appropriation allowing DOJ to settle and pay cases. On a quarterly basis, the Fund shall send a report to the Attorney General outlining who has received relief and what form of relief was awarded.
What will the fund be used for? To pay anyone on Team MAGA — including, in theory, January 6th insurrectionists — who claim the Biden administration “weaponized” the government to target them. Many of these claims are simply not true. January 6th insurrectionists were arrested and convicted for actually breaking the law. But now they get to ask Trump for money, and the evidentiary standard appears to be “trust me, bro” and a red MAGA hat.
Let’s first dispense with the most obvious bit of the charade: the idea that this is actually related to the “settlement” of Trump’s already corrupt bull lawsuit against the IRS. That’s how this is being presented, but this is entirely separate. Trump needed to drop that lawsuit in order to end it before a judge called bull on the fact that he was negotiating with himself to take $10 billion from American taxpayers.
Once the funds are deposited into the Designated Account, the United States has no liability whatsoever for the protection or safeguarding of those funds, regardless of bank failure, fraudulent transfers, or any other fraud or misuse of the funds.
Maybe pay Maxwell after Trump pardons her?
whatever the old man wants, that's typically what slush funds are made for

no graduation without mandatory conservative indoctrination at University of Iowa
the courses aren't very popular, so Iowa is forcing all students to take them
https://www.kcrg.com/2026/05/20/iowa...ow-enrollment/University of Iowa students could soon be required to take classes at the Center for Intellectual Freedom — or they won’t be able to graduate.
Republican lawmakers added a provision to a massive budget bill during a 35-hour legislative session requiring University of Iowa students to complete at least six credit hours from the center to earn an undergraduate degree. The bill now heads to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ desk.

Questions are growing around the disappearance of a Republican congressman, as reports emerge that his wife also hasn’t been seen.
New Jersey Republican Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. has been absent from Washington for more than 75 days, missing a series of votes on key legislation linked to President Donald Trump’s agenda as Republicans work to defend their narrow House majority heading into the midterms.https://www.thedailybeast.com/myster...isappears-too/In his first public statement since early March, Kean said last month that he had missed nearly two months of House activity due to a “personal medical issue,” but offered few details about his condition or timeline for returning to Washington. “I expect to return to a full schedule and be at 100 percent,” he added.
A tax funded church service. Nifty.

“I didn’t expect the corruption to be quite as widespread as it has been. The self-dealing, the lining of his and his family’s pockets. It’s shocking. You look across the board at the Trump family, I’ve never seen a family get so rich off the presidency.” — Megyn Kelly
