Chris Simms was an abortion of a quarterback.
On Colt McCoy: What I’ve seen is basically the same thing we worked on in the summer; you know, hitting the high routes, reading the blitzes, making the appropriate reads, checking plays at the line. He’s doing all the things that a quarterback in this system is supposed to do and that lets me know, as a receiver, that he’s ready to play.
On expecting Colt to play like a veteran quarterback: I wouldn’t expect him to play as a veteran quarterback. What I expect him to do is what I’ve always told him and what everyone else has told him: “Just go out there and play your game." We have a quote “Just do what you do,” so he’s been doing that and he’s been doing great. So come Saturday I’m just going to tell him “Do what you do."
On being the go-to receiver: Honestly, in my opinion, it’s not about a go-to receiver, it’s about getting the ball around and just letting each guy do his own thing and make plays.
On building on last season: Ohio State was definitely a big builder for me, making a catch like that on the stage, but also just being around the game and having a great guy like Vince (Young) to bring me along and press the situation; being able to look at him and seeing how calm he was and reacting to situations is sort of what I’m bringing to the team this year and trying to pass along to the younger quarterbacks. In tight situations it’s better to just be out there, be loose, I mean not just me, but Billy (Pittman), Quan (Cosby), Selvin (Young), you know the older guys who have been there before, and really, we just want to let the younger guys know that it’s all right and just play the game.
On his performance last year: I mean, it's sort of tough because I’m my own worst critic; I’m a perfectionist and I always strive for perfection, although everyone knows no one is perfect. I like to run crisp routes and do everything accurately, so sometimes the coaches may think everything is all right, but it may be little things like keeping my shoulders square on my routes that eat me up.
On being his worst critic: Now I need to just focus on the little things like keeping my arms pumping, stance, and keeping my shoulders square at the end of my routes. But being out there playing and getting experience under your belt, you learn from every situation and try to build on that.
On the young receivers: As a group, you’ve got Montre Webber, Josh Marshall, and Philip Payne, and as a group I’ve seen those guys do some nice things. We don’t know if they’ll play or redshirt because that’s still to be determined, but from what I can see, they all have very promising futures. As a group, the receivers have had excellent two-a-days camp and going to the season, there are a ton of great things to look forward to.
On compe ion among him, Billy Pittman, and Quan Cosby: No, no compe ion. Maybe during practice when we do pass skills – see who drops the most balls, or at the end of practice we might do fingertip push-ups or something just to keep everybody honest.
On comparing himself to Roy Williams: I try not to compare myself to Roy Williams or anyone for that matter. Just like the quarterbacks, people compare them to Vince (Young), and I mean it’s just me out there doing my thing – me being me. Some people may compare us, but in my opinion, it doesn’t really matter.
On his big play during last year’s game against Ohio State: I mean there might be few people that looked at me different on campus, not just from the play, but from winning and helping the team progress. And it felt good to know that I helped the team progress, that was one of my main goals – to just help the team in the best way I can – and I think I did.
On last year’s season: We take a lot of looseness, a lot of Vince’s (Young) looseness and having fun, and his creativity during practice, and we’re going to take it out on the field also. Because in my experience, when you’re out there loose and having fun, things tend to go right, but when you’re out there uptight and nervous, you tend to make more mistakes. So that will be the key thing – to just come in and have fun, just do what you do and have fun. (someone should have explained that to Chris Simms)

and those records are like saying steve nash's mvp season meant something, or dirk's consistent improvement has meant something
he was a complete failure for not bringing us a championship (aka not beating OU) ...we only needed the greatest ncaa player of all time to pull it off..

it's easy to do that when Daddy is signing checks to the University in exchange for playing time that you don't deserve over Major Applewhite.
That would be true except the playing time didn't allow him to break the record. He could have played and sucked so bad he never came close to a record. Daddy's checks had nothing to do with performance once he was put out there. I was never a big fan of simms either but that statement didn't make sense...unless "Daddy" paid off the statistician.
yeah i suppose, but then again, with the type of talent the University of Texas has, my grandmother could look good playing QB. Simms also seemed to stockpile 6 TD performances against U-LaLa while playing terrible against teams that mattered (oklahoma).
Chris Simms shouldn't have played a meaningful snap until his senior year because Major Applewhite was a better QB and a better winner. Him breaking records with the most talented team in the nation doesn't mean crap, because the amount of losses he piled up with that team is inexcusable. The only reason he played over Applewhite is because of his last name.

Agreed. Again, I never liked the guy either. I loved Applewhite though as well.
major applewhite had 4 touchdown passes in the second half to defeat nebraska at home, the first time nebraska lost at home in ages....
Who the were we playing when simms did that for us? LA Lafayette?
