4th and 1 and they throw the 4th unsuccessful fade of the drive. Should have thrown something quick and short.
...heck of a football game! this final drive by South Carolina reminds me of Ohio State vs. Miami (championship game) ....scratching and clawing the whole way....

so close! tough game for the ol' ball coach...i love to see Spurrier win.
yeah, i was wondering that. i wonder if there wasn't a blitz...what receiver he would have gone to/throw he would have made.
A quick slant had worked on a previous 4th and three... if pressure was coming either that or a very quick out to the sidelines would have been preferred. Hard to execute that close to the end zone - the D is pressing since they don't have to worry about covering deep. Still probably a little bit better than throwing it up for grabs against a CB and S
exciting game, but i wanted south carolina to win. oh well. but it looks like the new old qb is working out alot better for south carolina.
yeah, i was hoping South Carolina would win as well...good for our Trojans!

...Spurrier almost always throws a fade when he is near the endzone...and if executed properly works @ a high %. the problem was there was too much time after the ball was thrown to adjust b/c of the blitz. i don't like the idea of the slant since the DBs were starting to adjust to that route. i think your idea of a quick out away from Rice would have been the best bet...that or maybe the tight end releasing out....i don't know...
Why in the world they didn't play action him with a option to run I'll never know. He was killing them converting with runs all quarter.
Spurrier may like the fade, but I tend to favor fades when you have a little more room to work with and one on one coverage on the outside. Asking a receiver to snag the ball from two defenders in the corner of the end zone is asking a lot. My formation of choice would have been a single back with two receivers left - one split one slot. One split receiver right. From that have the split left receiver run an "in" route while the slot reciever runs a quick out. If the coverage is man - the slot receiver will have a LB in coverage and the split receiver will take the CB with him on the "in" route. Good matchup with a slot receiver against a LB to get to the sidelines on an out. If it's zone - the CB will more than likely take the flat and the split reciever will have a small cushion over the LB but in front of the safety. It kind of all depends on how much you trust the QB to accurately read the defense, but you can always motion the back into slot right and see if the LB shifts to cover (which signals man coverage). The rollout is a good option if the kid can throw accurately on the run, but with the short field and no deep threat it's pretty doubtful he would have been able to run for it... the LB and DB's were all playing tighter on the line. Just a thought... as a player I always thought the quick 5 yard out was a tough cover on short yardage. Covering that tight on the flat to the outside leaves the D vulnerable closer to the middle.
Aww my heart goes out to East USC. They played a damn good game for the most part. I think that 's INT blew it for them earlier in the game though. Auburn looked like . Mississippi Mud Man (tommy t) even said after the game it was awful. Tigers really looked weak and if they thought that was good defensive pressure they are in for a wakeup call against the Pigs.
Our D-Line is a uvalot more aggressive than EUSC even though our secondary is weaker. That game did put a little more hope in an upset next weak UA @ AU
the game just furthered my thoughts that USC is better than Auburn....imo.
