How did Jackass Stern arrange the playoff format for this year?
I know he finally will reseed beginning in round 2. So we wont see another scenario like #2 Dallas vs #1 San Antonio while Phx 54-28 got the Clippers 47-35 in Round 2.

However what did Sir Limp do as to the overall seedings? Also in Round 2 will a non div team with a better record then div winner be seeded higher.
Is a division winner in a week division still seeded higher then a non division winner in anther division with a better record?

Example last year. Dallas finishes 60-22 yet was seeded below Denver at 44-38.

1st Round. Nothing has changed. 60-22 Dallas would still be seeded below 44-38 Division winner Denver.

2nd Round will be seeded according to record. So if Denver were to have won its R1 series along with Dallas, Dallas would be seeded higher for R2.
R2 will be seeded according to record, not division status.

So asshat did finally make an improvement, albeit not till R2. I would like to see R1 be based soley on record also.

i think no matter how much a conference sucks (NW) you still have to reward them for winning it.

I wish it would all be based on the teams' season records. That seems the most fair to me.

I still say they should just pool the top 16 teams from the entire NBA, regardless of conference/division. That way a team would have to fight through the best of the NBA, not just some of the teams that were lucky to get in because of being in a ty division.

I can't think of a reason why that wouldn't work. Cool idea.

I know they would never do this because of the money, but I would like to see the number of teams allowed in the playoffs cut. over half of the teams get in. maybe set up some sort of wildcard instead of having a first round... i dont know.

You'd think Stern would be thrilled to have a 7 game series of Shaq vs. Kobe, but I'm sure he'd like it better to a 7 game NBA Finals series.

According to NBA.com, August 3, 2006, the NBA approved a revised playoff seeding system. Under the new rules, the three division winners in each conference will still get entry into the playoffs, and the five teams with the best record of the remaining teams in the conference will get the other playoff spots. However, the three division winners and the team with the best record of the non-division winners (top four seeds) will be seeded based on record, while the bottom four teams will get seeds according to record.

This new system ensures that division winners will be seeded in the top four, regardless of how weak the division may be. However, there may still be occurrences of a higher seed with a worse record facing a lower seed with a better record.

?? So Sternfish has changed Round 1?
    Round 1
So an example using last years records but this years seedings would be:
    1 San Antonio 63 19
    2 Dallas 60 22
    3 Phoenix 54 28
    4 Denver 44 38
    5 Memphis 49 33

Will Round 2 be reseeded strictly by record? Why did i think that was part of the plan?

Or will the same potential b.s. occur in Round 2 also. "However, there may still be occurrences of a higher seed with a worse record facing a lower seed with a better record."
