My questions that you mentioned have nothing to do with my opinions on mma. They are in no way meant to support my point of view. They were meant to address the pointless smack that you were throwing around. Logic would be what supports my opinion. If you have a different opinion than me, that's cool. I'd love to hear it. That's what makes these boards great, sharing of opinions.
If you found some inconsistency in my opinion while searching through my history of posts, that's okay. Call me a hypocrite.
I just want to have an mma conversation without it turning into this.
They didn't help Tim Sylvia, Stefan Bonnar, Kimo, Josh Barnett, etc. Pride definitely has a steriod problem that needs to be addressed but this is not exclusive to that particular org. From this fan's perspective, Pride seems to have the worst problem. I mean 2 positive tests plus Randleman's illegitimate urine sample, all at one event?! That's horrible. They will need to clean it up to gain credibility with American fans who they are trying to win over.
If Monson can get him down it's over! It will be tough to get past those long arms and heavy punches.
Well they did help Barnett but you get the point.![]()
I'm sure there are more guys in Pride that are on steroids or other banned substances since there isn't testing, but it might not be as bad as it seems. I'm sure there are UFC guys that do cycles and know how to mask certain things to keep from getting busted. And I'm sure there are guys that take a chance since everybody isn't tested for each event (ie, Stephan Bonnar). The Pride guys probably aren't as versed in the "art" of beating the system as guys in the US are.
But I agree, they'll need to get the number of failed tests down in the US. I don't give a damn personally, but I know it needs to be done for the advancement of the sport.
What's terrible is that two of the three Pride guys who failed the steroid tests (Randleman and Belfort) have fought in the states and KNEW they might be tested. That makes them especially dumb.
Yea, I think Vitor and Randleman KNEW they needed an advantage and acted desperately. Nastula might not have known what he was getting into, but he's been given a raw deal with his matchups so far, so it's not surprising that he would do something drastic too...
At least all 3 lost...
And yet, I'm still kind of sad about the Belfort loss. So much wasted potential in that career...
Here's a good Brandon Vera interview...
http://www.mmanews.com/ufc/Awesome-P...era-Interview-[Part-1].html
At least Vera knows he can't hang with Fedor right now...
MMANews.com: Now, shifting gears a little bit here. There's a lot of people criticising the UFC's heavyweight division. They call it probably one of the weakest divisions. What is your take on that, do you agree or disagree?
Brandon Vera: I disagree. I disagree. I have a goal, either 2008 or 2009 is to be able to beat Fedor. I know I'm not on his level yet, but that is my goal. For next year I need to work on myself, but 2008 or 2009 my goal is to beat Fedor and let everyone know the UFC heavyweight division is what it is. I mean, granted everyone keeps hyping up these certain guys, like Cheick Kongo, because he's a good kickboxer, then he gets smashed by a wrestler. I just don't think we have enough well rounded fighters yet, but we're getting there. And the UFC is starting to improve more and more for that purpose. I would love to fight [Antonio Rodrigo] Nogueira, Shogun [Mauricio Rua], man Vanderlei [Silva] any of those PRIDE guys. I'm not scared of those guys, the only guy I'm nervous about fighting is Fedor because I have not found a hole in his game yet. I watch all his fights over and over again, there's nothing, he doesn't make a mistake. He hasn't made a mistake yet.
MMANews.com: We talked about him last time and obviously you have a great deal of respect for him.
Brandon Vera: Yeah.
MMANews.com: Do you think he'll still be undefeated in 2009 [laughs]?
Brandon Vera: Honestly, 2008 I think he'll still be undefeated. Nobody will beat him next year. The only guy I think could beat him in that time is Mark Hunt and then even then Fedor knows if he's fighting Mark Hunt he's going to go to the ground with him.
MMANews.com: I think it'd look a lot like Josh Barnett and Hunt.
Brandon Vera: Yeah, man that pissed me off. I was hoping they was going to bang. Josh is one of my favorite fighters, to see him and Hunt bang? , I'd love to watch them do that for three rounds - could you imagine?
and I think Nog, Shogun, Silva, etc (he didn't mention Crocop) would all handle him easily right now.
and about Tim Sylvia...
WrestlingInc.com: The reason I asked you that because obviously the last time we talked you had some choice words for Sylvia. Now that of course dates back to when you first came into the company and you said he was talking bad about you. Now, you said you wanted to break his leg.
Brandon Vera: Oh yeah, that's still gonna happen. That's still one of my goals if me and Tim can get a fight, I'm gonna chop one of his legs off. I mean it's calmed down a lot, he was talking a lot of smack about me, now he kinda left me alone.
I'd love to see Vera kick a hole in Tim's goofy legs...
Vera is the man. Not only is he great mma fighter but he's pretty funny too. The guy knows how to entertain the fans and I appreciate that. I would love to see him match up with Sylvia. Sylvia has a serious height and weight advantage on him but it would an awesome match. I'd have to put my money on Vera!
The truth is I think that there really arent any great HW in the UFC. I think that most of the UFC fighters are inferior to Prides, just look how fast Anderson Silva got a belt from one of the supposedly top guys in UFC. There is probably 4 or 5 HW in Pride that could come over and win the belt, Alex is just smart because he is beating them to the beating of Sylvia
lol i agree with hw divison in the ufc is by far the weakest...vera has his goals set high but 2008 is still a long time away and fedor is going to improve as well, i don't think vera has a chance
Arlovski
I think AA is the most talented HW by far in the UFC. In my opinion, he was way too passive in his last fight w/ Sylvia. I was waiting for him to take Tim down and submit him. I think he respects Tim to much for his own good. I do not doubt he will be champ again.
For anyone who thinks Kongo will be a future force in MMA, don't hold your breath. The guy is a pure standup fighter who would get beaten by anyone with decent wrestling skills.
I agree that Andre is a freak athlete, but he does have a really weak chin, and I think he lost some confidence. There is no doubt in my mind that he should beat Tim, but will he? I dont know
Why do you think he has a weak chin? He got hit hard by big Tim. I don't know many who that punch wouldn't have stunned.
I think he would. He just has to toughen up and get way more aggresive with getting him to the ground.
Pedro Rizzo and Rico Rodriguez both knocked himout, and the Sylvia punch wasnt that hard in my opinion, I dont think that would have knocked out a lot of the heavyweights in the UFC
Pedro is a very hard hitter. Ricco, well....you have a point there.
Damn, Aleks lost to Werdum (no shame in that really as he's also a top 10 HW) over the weekend in 2 Hot 2 Handle in Europe...
Have to see how that affects these UFC rumors...
I used to think that, but he just didn't bring it in his last 2 fights...VERY disappointing. That was the worst HW le fight ever. He's definitely more skilled, but losing like he did makes Sylvia "better" as much as it pains me to say it...
Maybe Monson will pull it off this Saturday...I'd LOVE to see him take Tim down and sub him...
I got the fight if you want it.
That fight being boring was AA's fault. Sylvia fought a smart fight and won on points. He wanted no part of AA's ground game. That's why AA should have shot in and taken down and subbed him.
Ah, now I don't have to worry about uploading it. I found it on youtube.

Thanks man!!
Aleks is frustrating, but losing to Werdum is nothing to be ashamed of...
