It's odd that USC struggled to get by the lesser teams in the PAC-10, even got beat by one of them, yet the teams that they were supposed to struggle with they've beaten fairly handily.

Are you serious???? If USC DOES win, it will be by 10 pts or less.
    Notre Dame in sucks

Oh well, if USC does make the Championship game, I hope they get killed by Ohio State.

Does Norte Dames field goal kicker suck or was Weis strategy just whacked?

ND 1st half drives to USC territory with no kick attempts for points:

    USC 29: Opening drive 4th and 9
    USC 32: 2nd qtr 3:20 before half. 4th and 6. Only down 21-10.

    46 & 49 yd f.g.s passed up.

no, he is just aggressive like Carroll. Both coaches had some 4th down attempts tonight as did both in last years game.

hahahaha, return an onside kick for a TD. Notre Dame is severely outmatched this game yet again, just wait until next year...they'll have no offense.

    FIGHT ON!!!
notre dame has a bunch of seniors while usc only has 2 seniors on the defensive 2-deep (a few juniors could leave though).

nuts. i am still laughing about the sign at gameday that said "charlie ate the chocolate factory." it was a great ending to the 2006 home schedule. 33 home wins in a row. it doesn't get much better. so many exciting plays. jarrett's one handed catch, reed's return, cushing's td.

Notre Dame was the most overrated team in college football this year, and it was fun seeing them get their asses handed to them in the only two real games they played this year - Michigan and USC.

Being at the game was great, except for the losing part. I made a bet with some students around me that I would buy the keg if ND lost, well I bought a keg. It was the cheapest I could find, nati light, suckers. The SC fans I sat around where all really cool. They said they were pissed that ND got the Clausen kid.

Weiss needs to use his connections and get a Defensive coord. that can recruit. I do not think their offense will be that bad next year but they need to get some better defensive recruits coming through the pipeline.

the difference on 4th downs: sc 2-2, nd 2-6
    SCs:
4th and 1 (from 10 yard line while ahead 14-3)
4th and 1 (from 30 yard line while ahead 21-10)

no, he is just aggressive like Carroll. Both coaches had some 4th down attempts tonight as did both in last years game.

Carrolls were much more low risk in this years game, only 1 yd each.
I think Weis should have grabbed the 1st half field goals, altho 46 and 49 are certainly not gimmes. That is why I asked how the ND kicker is. 4th and long and both times Weis went for it. Overagressive?

2nd half Weis more or less had to go for the 4th downers being down 28-10.
However they were short and close.
Inside 6 yardline twice on same drive at 4th and 1 & 4th and 2.
It worked, got an offsides and then a touchdown.

Anywho the botched onsides kick that SC ran in for a touchdown rendered the field goal story just a sideplot.

well, another issue, besides an aggressive mindset, is i think Weis thought USC was going to keep putting up numbers and that he would have to score TDs and not field goals to stay in the game. keep in mind USC scored on their first 3 drives.

Congrats to USC. You made a mockery of ND, and even if it means that UM wont get to the le game, it sure was fun watching the Irish cry in the beer.

well sorry I did not answer your question sooner, but yes ND's kicker suck past 40. Put it this way, if you look at the numbers the percentages are in notre dames favor going for it on 4th down and great than 5 than the kicker making a plus 40 yard field goal. Plus if Mcknight could catch the damn ball they move the chains, if anyone shriveled up in a big game it was Rhema. Samarjdza gave him the opportunity to be in single coverage the whole game and he did not have much of an impact, or atleast not the impact he should of had.

I did not cry in my beer, I bought a keg and toasted the trojans the best of luck in winning the national championship game. It is hard to be bitter about a game in which the team you were playing was just flat out better than you. If ND had given the game away I would have been more pissed off, but I firmly believe, especially after seeing them in person, that USC is really that good.

P.S. It is hard to appreciate their overall speed unless you are at the game, TV does not due them justice. Their defense is very very quick and have a great understanding of how to use their speed. They do not have a lot of wasted energy and motion when playing on the field.
