"WTF?!!" That was all I could say after tossing away $37 dollars to see the film this past weekend.

    Save your money.

I'd give out the spoilers here just to save others the trouble of seeing the flick, but there aren't any.

It's one of those movies for people who like to sit around and talk about how "deep" the messages in the film were...unfortunately there was really only one and it wasn't that deep.

I should have gone to see Casino Royale.

    oh mega burn.

When I heard the le I thought to myself who the would want to make a movie based on an Ayn Rand book but then I remembered her book was named Fountainhead not The Fountain.
See this and you'll wonder who would want to have actually made this movie.

I saw this film in Ft Worth .This a hard film to watch. It has great cinematography, great soundtrack, and very impressive acting, however, I feel that the advertising on the film has been misleading. This is not a love story, nor is it a science fiction film (although it has elements of both). The true core of the film is a man dealing with the idea of mortality. The fact that he, and everyone, especially the woman he loves, is going to die. This is nothing like Requiem for a Dream or Pi, it has a heavier feel to it, though it is not as depressing. Not everyone will like this movie, in faxt, I find it hard to believe that this will get a wide release, as it is not a commercial film. It is an art film, a discussion piece, a beautiful poem about the fragility of life and the idea of forever.

I do not know if I liked it or not, to be frank.

I think the fact that they mislead you in the previews is what was frustrating about the film. I'm all for the artsy, let's get stoned, watch the movie and discuss it sort of films, but I wasn't in the mood for it the other night. Don't promote the film as "sci-fi" because it really wasn't.

Your summation, Jim, is perfect. Had that been the way the film was promoted I might have not been as disappointed as I was. Under that premise I possibly could have even enjoyed it. . .on video. . .from the dollar bin. . .on a night with nothing better to do.

Jim, Ed: did you see/like Pi?

Just wondering if I should use that as a basis.

Hated Requiem. Rented Pi and liked it.

Pi was weird, but obsession has never been so exciting. It was a mind expandimg phenomema. If you have ever wondered about the universe, god or the nature of insanity, ity will take you where you don't want to go. I worried that this would be another typical bad science movie, but after a while those fears disappeared very quickly. Of course, they didn't get all the details down pat, but most of it was believable (or close) and some of it was correct. Comments on science aside though, I think this was one of the more interesting, and certainly one of the most original, movies I have ever seen.

I saw The Fountain with my girl...I liked it and she didn't. Like someone else already said, the acting, the cinematography and effects were all top notch. It was just missing something, some sort of hook. The movie is like a poem and therefore should not be viewed as a linear piece of work. There are a lot of fragments and movements within the film and I felt it missed some wonder intellectually rather than visually.

I liked both Requiem and Pi, but liked Requiem more. I'll probably end up waiting until it hits cable, though.

To me, The Fountain isn't nearly as complex as Pi. Some movies are so stimulating that you recall them several times in the days following its viewing and think about some aspect of it that you perhaps hadn't considered before. Pi did that for me. . .The Fountain did not. The Fountain fell short of its intended goal, IMHO.
