Bobcats Add Veteran Guard Derek Anderson

The Bobcats added backcourt depth and experience on Tuesday by signing free agent guard Derek Anderson. Anderson will wear jersey #23 and is with the team for Tuesday’s game at New Jersey.
The 6-5, 195-pounder has appeared in 537 career NBA games (358 starts) and averaged 12.7 points, 3.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 30.5 minutes, while shooting .408 from the field, .339 from three-point range and .853 from the free throw line. His nine-year NBA career has included stints with Cleveland, L.A. Clippers, San Antonio, Portland, Houston and Miami.
Anderson spent the 2005-06 season split between the Rockets (20 games) and Heat (23 games) and averaged 8.1 points and 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 43 games. He appeared in eight of Miami’s 23 playoffs games and connected on .357 from the three-point line with averages of 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 8.3 minutes. Over his career, he has appeared in 24 playoff games with the Cavaliers, Spurs, Trail Blazers and Heat.
“Derek is a veteran player who has the potential to help our team in several ways. His versatility in the backcourt allows him to play either position,” Bobcats General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. “He is an exemplary person off the court and he reached the championship level last year with Miami.”
Initially drafted by Cleveland with the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 1997 NBA Draft, Anderson was a teammate of current Bobcats guard Brevin Knight for his first two NBA seasons and both Knight and Anderson earned NBA All-Rookie honors in 1997-98.
Anderson averaged double-figures in each of his first seven seasons, including his breakout year during the 2000-01 campaign in San Antonio. He started all 82 games that season, and posted 15.5 points, a career-high 4.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, a career-high 1.46 steals and 34.9 minutes. He also connected on .416 from the field, .399 from the three-point line and .853 from the free-throw line. Anderson posted a career-best 16.9 points in 1999-2000 with the L.A. Clippers and added 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists that season.

Did Derek promise Bernie a boss leather jacket or something?
He is quite the journeyman.
They must be laboring under the delusion that getting MJ in the front office has automatically made them a playoff team. Otherwise they should have just picked up a true young point guard and work on trading Knight for a young scorer.
Even more of a reason to kick their ass when they play them again
