DALLAS— The Dallas Mavericks announced tonight that they have traded guard Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse and forward Austin Croshere, and 2 disclosed draft picks to the Philiadelphia 76ers for guard Allen Iverson.
"We were trying to find a player who has a combination of NBA playoff experience, good shooting abilities and leadership qualities we value in the locker room,” said President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Donnie Nelson. “Allen brings all those things to the table.”
“We are excited to get Allen,” added head coach Avery Johnson. “His game fits well into our system. We like his professionalism and experience. He will complement our team well.”
Iverson (6-0, 165) has spent all eleven of his seasons with the 76ers after originally being selected with the 1st overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. In 697 career games, he has averaged 28.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 41.42 minutes per game while shooting 42.1% from the floor, 30.9% from 3-point range and 77.8% from the line.
Since his rookie season, Iverson has never shot below 70% from the foul line.
This past season, Iverson saw action in 72 games. He averaged 33.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 43.06 minutes per game while shooting 44.7% from the floor, 32.3% from 3-point range and 81.4% from the line.
Harris (6-3, 185) leaves the Mavericks after three seasons. He joined the team via the 2004 NBA draft(5th overall).
In 156 career games, Harris averaged 7.9 points, 1,9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 19.48 minutes per game while shooting 45.9% from the floor and 75.1% from the line.
This past season, Harris appeared in 56 games, averaging a career-high 9.9 points, a career-high 2.2 rebounds, a career-high 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals in a career-high 22.48 minutes per game.
