I guess the speed of light changed over the weekend?![]()
Actually, he lost once in 2006 (avenged it later in the year), but he was unquestionably the #1 LW in the world. He certainly wasn't himself last weekend. He dominated for a couple minutes, then gas'd like I've never seen before. He still managed to break Nick's face even when he was gas'd out. He stood in front of Nick with his hands down and took everything he threw at him...
Nick has a very small chance in the rematch...I can't see him winning unless Gomi gases out again for some reason. Very little chance against any of the other top Pride LW's like Sakurai or Melendez either. I'd love to see Nick vs Aoki...the only 2 guys to pull a gogo in a big show, and it was in the last 2 Pride events...
Unquestionably the #1 LW?!?!?!Common senseless at work ONCE again.
#1, Yeah, I guess he really proved it.![]()
Such a Wiz of MMA and stilll don't realize that the crux of the matter ISN'T who bleeds more but who WINS the fight. For example, KO'g your comp, winning on points or making them TAP.
Damn....is common sense that uncommon in the Metroplex??![]()
The LEONARD WORLD:
Judge #2: "Well, Diaz bleed more despite making Gomi look like a human punching bag and making Gomi tap so I think Gomi should win."![]()
Such an MMA expert that Opie is.![]()
Dude, all I know is that Gomi got his ASS beat by a guy who had been talking mad before the fight, no excuse for getting beat up like that
He dominated Diaz until he gas'd for whatever reason...never seen that happen to him before. Yes...fact...he lost. There is no disputing that. All I'm saying is tap the brakes on drawing too many conclusion from that fight...like UFC > Pride, or these 10 guys in the UFC could beat Gomi, etc etc. It's one fight...I call it a fluke. We'll see this year if I'm wrong. Was Silva vs Franklin a fluke? We'll see this year. Dana said that Franklin "wasn't right" when he fought Silva...guys can have an off night occasionally. I think Gomi had a severely "off" night...
The rematch will be a great fight, but I expect we'll see the real Gomi and he'll handle up on Nick. Nick hadn't been hit like he was last weekend in ANY UFC fight...not by Riggs, Lawler, Diego, Sherk, etc...none of them knocked Nick on his butt or split his face and fractured his orbital with 1 punch. You could tell he was surprised with his power in his post fight interviews...not the normal trash talk you get from him...slightly humbled, even with the win.
Im not saying any of those things at all. I hate Diaz and think he is way overated, and I really couldnt believe he beat Gomi. I also am not under the impression that UFC has better fighters, quite the opposite. I think that most of the divisions in Pride are stronger and MUCH deeper than the UFC. With that said though, Diaz is a punk, and Gomi must haveknown how much of a punf he was. Him not being conditioned enough is inexscusable. Hopefully when they rematch he will be better prepared, cause he was jacking Diaz up, it just didnt look like it was affecting him
Gotcha...Gomi's performance definitely doesn't make sense. If he didn't take the fight seriously, shame on him.
Diaz is a punk...I kinda like him for some of the stuff he does, but other stuff is annoying. He's a tough guy...no doubt.
I do think Diaz was affected though. Diaz was out of it in the post fight interview...repeating the same things a couple times, not talking any trash, etc. I'm sure his face was in severe pain. Normally when you get your orbital crushed, you crumble...just look at Chuck vs Vernon White, or Bob Sapp vs Crocop![]()
a loss is a loss it doesn't matter if you gas it just proves you didn't train as much as the other guy, but i don't it will happen if there is a rematch
It very well could if the guy that is "light yrs ahead of everyone else" fights Diaz again.
Maybe Gomisan will realize that Diaz isn't coming from a pride "bush league" and that UFC fights Diaz was in were for real.![]()
