Contrary to popular belief, Beasley did not sign because of Huggins. He signed because of Dalonte Hill, the assistant coach who he has known most of his life. It's currently undetermined as to where Hill will end up.

But KSU does have 2 things in its favor:

    1) The school, as a policy, does not grant releases from LOI. If he leaves, he'd have to sit for a year, and I don't think the NBA would smile on that.

    2) He is very close friends with Bill Walker. Walker is unlikely to go anywhere - for the same reason. If he left, he'd have to sit out a year and would yet to have shown the NBA that he has a 100% knee or that he has developed a reliable jumper when his eligibility for the draft comes up.

Actually, if we can hold the class without Beasley (Sutton, Pullen, and Brown) - it's still could be a pretty decent squad depending on if anybody transfers and if they catch a few breaks.

But yeah, Beasley is clearly the difference between this being a top half of the Big 12 team and a top 20 team - with a higher ceiling - overall.

Of course, everybody could want out and this could represent the low point in KSU basketball history. A proud tradition that has had a lot of low points over the past 20 years.

Reports are KSU is refusing to release Beasley from his LOI - meaning he stays, sits out a year, or sits on his ass for a year and go straight in the NBA.

If KSU really refuses to release Beasley, kiss away any chance of getting that caliber player EVER again.

    Happy Days are here again!

    doesn't matter now.

Frank Martin hired as head coach, Dalonte Hill as associate coach.

All but assures that the entire recruiting class will stay intact.

That's only partly true. We hold them to their LOI until a new coach is hired, then it is up to them - not an uncommon procedure.

It's moot now. Beasley said yesterday that if Dalonte stays on staff, he'll still be a cat - not that it has stopped USC, NC St., or Huggins from contacting him anyways, even though he has signed an LOI to KSU.

The Big XII got significantly worse this offseason. SEC got a bit better, with Kentucky back in play. Big Ten got a bit better, with 3 nice coaches swooping in.

    We'll see.

Bzedlik at Colorado is an upgrade over Patton. KU returns everybody off a top 5 team. Mizzou is going to quite a bit better as Anderson starts inserting his own players. ISU & Nebraska should improve as neither loses any signficant contributors and they become more familiar with their coach.

KSU has a complete unknown at coach, but they might lead the conference in future lottery picks and the roster will be the most talented on campus in 2 decades.

Texas will be worse, but not much. A&M will miss Gillespie and Law, but I like the team that they are returning. Knight will find a way to make Tech compe ive. Baylor looked like they might finally be close to clicking at the end of the year. Oklahoma is going to be better. It's hard to imagine Okie State underachieving that bad again.

We certainly downgraded in the coaching department, but as a whole, the conference should be much better next year.
