Vomit, drugs and rock-n-roll.
That's what you missed, if you didn't catch Chris Duel's "Show" Monday.
KTSA managers continue to stonewall about the weird goings-on in their PM talk show.
At least one phony phone call was inadvertently admitted to by host Duel in an internet forum apparently sanctioned by the CBS/Infinity-owned station. An examination of that website has yielded more about the new direction that KTSA is taking.
More about that later. But first...
Duel began his Monday show by encouraging his side-kick, Ruben "The Bone," to vomit on the air.
Then, in an overblown tribute to dope-advocate/writer Hunter S Thompson, who suicided Sunday, Duel featured the famous opening lines from Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
"We were just outside of Barstow when the drugs kicked in."
Duel raved about it.
Senior KTSA reporter Michael Board allowed that Thompson demonstrated "what Journalism should be about."
A later interview with a Thompson associate began with the declaration that the guest had just moments before "smoked a doobie" in honor of Thompson.
Later, "The Bone" asked Duel: "Are you stoned?"
Many other drug references -- even music about dope -- were offered up by the host.
Now that's entertainment.
Of course, it is easy to see where Duel is going with his trashy approach.
His latest arbitron ratings are weak, and it is now glaringly obvious that he will do anything to get attention. KTSA is clearly giving him a free hand. In seeming desperation he is attempting to become yet another Howard Stern. Underline attempting.
