    Good detective work JMark.

I have about 1,400 other photos for you to get cracking on:

That was only on the home jersey, which is the white jersey.
    No, not true:

Ok.. confusing looking at pics and determining years..

    http://www.nba.com/history/uniforms_jazz.html

1979 their road Jersey was green, and it states that only their home jersey's had Utah above the Jazz logo. So, it's definitely not 1979. As JMark says, most likely 1977-1978

    http://espn.go.com/classic/biography...vich_Pete.html

Knee injuries and a bacterial infection marked Maravich's 1977-78 season, when he averaged 27 points but missed 32 games. He was sidelined for 33 games the following year, but, wearing a knee brace, he lacked his old agility though he averaged 22.6.

    So, 1978-1979 ?

Yeah. That article you found confirms. 1978-79, the year prior to Utah.

I still say that is Buse. Regardless of the year. He looks like him, and fits the little that we've concluded about him and the picture, save for the Jewfro... Which could be cut, then flattened by sweat.

Sweet detective work, fellas. But there was an easier way.

If you look carefully, the guy sitting in section 101, seat 16 (the one with the mustache) is Al Rosenweig. From 1976 to 1978 he split Sun season tickets at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum with his co-worker and neighbor Stanley Thornton. Since Stanley was originally from Louisiana, he would always go to the Jazz games to see Maravich. However, in the summer of 1978 Stanley was a victim of a bizarre cement pouring accident. Thus the fact that Al is in that seat means that it must be no earlier than the 78-79 season.

78-79 Suns: Paul Westphal, Walter Davis, Alvan Adams, Don Buse, Mike Bratz, Alvin Scott, Joel Kramer, Ron Lee, Truck Robinson, Gar Heard, Bayard Forrest, Marty Byrnes, Ted McClain

I think we can safely rule out Westphal, Davis, Adams, Robinson and Heard. So that leaves the rest.

Since we've confirmed it's from 78-79 and it's Buse, here's more research: the picture was either taken on November 12, 1978, a 128-122 win by the Suns, or February 17, 1979, a 136-112 win by Phoenix.
