What’s the story behind the increase number of retired players coming back in the league Allan Houston, Reggie Miller and Penny Hardaway being the latest?

The question is would Penny make a difference in Miami?
Bad investments. They need the money.
maybe after witnessing how the spurs won with vets gave them the impression that they are the missing piece in winning a championship
but spurs didn't take any guys out of retirement. Michael is vet, but was never retired.
There are ring chasing success stories out there. They want to be one of them. And I think they believe the market has a place for them. Why overpay some young spot up shooter when you can get an older one for cheaper and get a good locker room guy to boot? There are GM's who would be willing to take that chance on these guys if they still have their stroke.
Because annual 7 figure paychecks aren't all that bad.
Delusioned ring chasers a la GOLLUM.... =(
I don't know what the story is, but I wish they'd go away and stay away.
Keith Van Horn, Tony Massenburg, Shawn Kemp, Charles Oakley and Allan Houston, are they broke or still love the game, and the sad thing is, that Dallas has interest in all of the above name players.
Dallas chases names in free agency like most guys chase skirts in bars.
The realization that Bush f***ed up the entire country and that the Social Security well has just about run dry. Then realizing that they shouldn't have bought all those rims when they should have been setting up a 401K. And then realizing that their wives weren't as hot as they used to be and now are starting to miss that roadie groupie love.
15 roster spots vs. 12 in the old days, and teams realized that they can give out vet mins with minimal risk and potential rewards. Why not? Sure is better than betting on a Kwame Brown or a Nikoloz Tskitishvili.
They finally found the fountain of youth somewhere in Florida...
or
They're all on some new, undetectable designer drug..
Alot of them are guys who retired due to injury and likely weren't mentally ready to hang it up, obvious exception of Reggie of course.
Old men dream of past glory....and money.
By the way, add Shawn Kemph to the list. He's still working out and trying to get a try-out I hear.
