I just did a buy in Yahoo league (35 dollars) with some friends who don't know tons about basketball. I got the number 1 pick. Some dude with the 10th and 11th pick said he would trade both his picks to me if I drafted Kobe with my number 1. I told him to draft Yao and Chris Paul for me. Here's my team:

Guards: Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Kevin Martin, Joe Johnson, Grant Hill

Forwards: Andrei Kirilenko, David West, Charlie Villanueva, Tim Thomas, Shane Battier

Centers: Yao Ming, Carlos Boozer, Brad Miller

What do you guys think? I feel that a core of CP3, Boozer, Yao, Kevin Martin, and Joe Johnson is strong.

You need one or two more centers. Brad Miller is crap the past seasons.

You need another power forward that will give you additional PTs, RBDs and BLKs. Try to get Al Jefferson, if someone from your league still has not noticed is 20/10 contributions the past season.

Your guards are very good. I remember I joined a league and was able to get both Kevin Martin and C-Paul when they were still "unnoticed" by many.

Some dude dropped him off his list. Since I was next in line on the waiver list, I picked him up.

And that was an active 12 team league.

Only ten teams are in my league. Having Deron Williams, AK47, and Boozer on my team should get me plenty of stats every night unless Okur has a huge season or something. If Brad Miller returns to form, I will use him and Yao at Center and then push Boozer to Forward. If my team stays healthy, I should be set.

Actually, I am not so sure with AK47. His value dropped considerably the past seasons.

Duncan was pretty good last season. He was around 20/10/2 in points, rebounds and blocks. You are probably referring to his performance 2 seasons ago while playing with plantar fasciitis.

    Probably a Laker fan.

Top 1 should either be LeBron or Garnett. , probably even Marion... players with multicategory stats.

I wouldn't even draft KG as number 1. His stats are sure to go down with 2 other big players with him. The likes of Marion/Kobe/AK47 who are on the verge of being traded I would stay away from, because who knows what might happen to them. Top 5 should be Lebron, Wade, Dirk, Nash, Arenas/Kobe

The advantage of Garnett is he can do a lot more than scoring. He can fill your stat sheets almost every night. He is also pretty durable unlike AK47.

KG still is a top 1 or top 2 draft pick.

Actually, based on last years stats, Kobe is a legitimate no. 1 pick. think about it, a decent FG% for someone who shoots so much, and an elite FT% (also consider the sheer voume of FTs), 3Pts, decent asts and rbs, and the scoring... Not to mention the steals.

I don't know where you based your stats but Kobe is not the legitimate #1.

Top 3 are often Garnett, LeBron or Marion. Highlighted are the stats where they excelled among the group, including Bryant.

Bryant might have 4 categories where he excels at but compare his stats with LeBron's, and you will see that LeBron has the overall edge over him.

Even Nowitzki's overall stats are better than Kobe's.

Kobe gets 5.7 Rb and 5.4 Ast. LBJ gets 6.7 and 6. Steals and blocks are very similar, slight edge to LBJ. Slight edge to LBJ in FG% (1%). Kobe gets a few more 3's and not to mention more points.

Here's the kicker for Kobe: 86.9% FT (10 attempts pr game). LBJ shoots a miserable 69.8% (on 9 attempts a game). When someone shoots that often at that low a %, it actually HURTS your fantasy team, while on the other hand, with Kobe on your team (who leads the league in FT made), you will do very well in that cat.

That's why you pair up LeBron with good FT shooters in your team.

You are arguing that Kobe is the legitimate #1. I showed you the facts. The stats show that he is not.

You are a die-hard Kobe fan if you pick him as your #1 overall.

A legitimate 1st pick is someone you build your team around, not someone whose liabilities your team has to compensate for. Also for that reason, I would pick KG or Marion over LBJ.

Kobe, Marion and KG have no WEAKNESS (fantasy wise). The cats in which LBJ has an edge on Kobe are only small differences. FT% is not an easy cat to make up, especially when you have someone who misses as much as Lebron. Who else shoots a high volume of FT's (at a good %) that would make up for that cat? Arenas, Dirk, but no way will you be able to pick either after picking Lebron...
