...that the antidote to losing in the first round is to lose 67 games this year?

I see effort, also frustration (Jet and Dirk yelled at each other at one point I think). I definitely don't buy the "pacing" excuse. They don't look confident and they look distant. Also at this rate, they can "pace" all they want...right into the offseason in May.

They've apparently decided that the best way to avoid failing expectations is not to set them.

Yeah, I've seen past Spurs teams in an early funk. This seems like more. They actually seem dysfunctional as a team. Dirk has a good game tonight, and Jet ing disappears. Stack finally shoots well, and Harris stinks up the joint.

Yeah, great point. And maybe if they keep it up the way they're playing now, they can fly under the radar even more while they post a below average record and miss the playoffs altogether. Then they can rest up during the playoffs and summer and really come roaring back with a vengeance in '09.

Spurs, Suns, Jazz, Rockets, Nuggets, Warriors, Lakers, Hornets ... oh ! That's 8 teams not including the Mavs that will probably win enough games this year to make the playoffs. Hmmm...

Well I talked to a good friend of mine before the season that I expect Dallas to start really slowly into the season. There was a lot of talk that they peaked too early last season. I don't think that they do it on purpose but I definetly expect them to improve throughout the season. Nobody is really expecting anything out of them anymore. There are still about 60+ games in the regular season. It will be interesting to see how the season goes on for them.

Maybe last year meltdown hurt them deeplier than people tought.

In 2005-2006, they were on a mission to beat the Spurs and failed in Finals
In 2006-2007, they were on a mission to prove they should've won and get their due.

That's where they took their energy. They better find a new souce of motivation to fuel their willingness.

I think they don't want a high seeding and the chance to face the Warriors again in the playoffs...or even the Lakers (didn't Kobe drop 62 on them through 3 quarters last season?).
