I bet the media is having a field day making headlines for this.
"Dolphins caught in the Tuna net" and other stupid things like that.
Parcells to the Dolphins as Exec. VP

I'm so sick of Parcells. There is no reason to have this big ordeal about him going to sit in a front office somewhere. He is a good coach, that's it and that's all. They act like he is the greatest coach in the history of the NFL and that somehow him sitting in an office will make the Dolphins win 10 games a season.
Let's review some of Parcells recent draft choices when he was in charge in Dallas -
2nd round 2003 - Al Johnson (Bust)
2nd round 2004 - Julius Jones (mediocre and will not be resigned)
2nd round 2004 - Jacob Rogers (Bust)
3rd round 2004 - Stephen Peterman (Bust)
1st round 2006 - Bobby Carpenter (drafts son of one of his former players - contributed next to nothing so far)
2nd round 2006 - Anthony Fausano (Used a premium draft pick for a backup)
Color me unimpressed with Bill Parcells as a guy in charge of a draft based on his work in Dallas. George Young ran the operation with the Giants as much as Parcells when they did draft well in NY in the 80s.
Good lower draft picks like Patrick Crayton, Marion Barber, and Jay Ratliff are more a by-product of the scouts than the figurehead.
Out of professional courtesy and integrity, BP ought to take Bobby Carpenter on in Miami for a 2nd or 3rd round pick because he obviously selected that stiff.
you conveniently skipped these years
2003 1st round - Terrence Newman
2003 3rd round - Jason Witten
2005 1st round - DeMarcus Ware
2005 2nd round - Kevin Burnett
Parcells drafting in Dallas was pretty spotty, but he had some big hits among his misses.
Not to mention Bradie James in 03, Chris Canty in 05, and Hatcher last year.
And naming Fasano and Carpenter is laughable. Neither guy has had a chance with pro-bowlers ahead of them.
f*c*ing hater
naming all the crappy players but skipping the good ones
Basically![]()
You all are missing my point. The "great" Bill Parcells should not have a less than 50 percent hit rate on premium draft picks from 2003-2006 given his reputation.
I know all about the guys that were high quality players from the draft such as Ware, Witten, and Newman. That is only three guys - I did not conveniently skip them. To credit BP a little bit (I credit the scouting staff more than Parcells for guys like Crayton, Barber, Canty, and Ratliff). That's a positive for BP in his time here.
HOWEVER....
The fact is the bulk of the Eastern Media (as well as small number of less intelligent media members in the DFW area) paint this picture of Parcells as the awesome builder of teams. In reality, Parcell's body of work IN DALLAS was inconsistent at best - coaching as well as "shopping for the groceries".
I am not being a hater as it relates to the Cowboys. I have followed them without fail for 37 years (since I was a little kid). I have seen what outstanding drafting can do for the Cowboys (1961-1977) (1988-1992) as well as lousy drafting (1978-1987) (1999-2001) can do for the Cowboys.
Let's dig a little deeper on Big Bill's drafting skills, shall we?
Dallas decided to trade their 2004 first round pick for a second round pick in 2004 and a 1st round pick in 2005. The Cowboys passed on the opportunity to draft Stephen Jackson (he went 24th in that draft and is an outstanding player when healthy[B]). The Cowboys ended up with Julius Jones with that 2nd round pick and Marcus Spears with the 2005 first round pick. Julius Jones will not be resigned by the Cowboys when his rookie contract expires at the end of this year. Marcus Spears appears to be an average player at best after three years. Would you rather have Julius Jones and Marcus Spears or Stephen Jackson on your team. I assume Bill Parcells made these decisions.
Bobby Carpenter was the 17th pick of the 2006 draft. Bobby Carpenter is the son of a former NY Giants player Rob Carpenter, who played for Bill Parcells. Bobby C had the same agent as Bill Parcells. He cannot get on the field after 2 years. Wade Phillips drafted another linebacker the first round in 2007 who can actually play football in Anthony Spencer. I assume Bill Parcells made the decision to draft Bobby Carpenter.
Anthony Fasano was the 2nd round pick in 2006. Keep in mind that Parcells already had a terrific tight end named Jason Witten already signed (I think) to a long term contract. Regardless, Witten is going to be the starter in Dallas for a long time. Dallas used a 2nd round draft pick for a backup tight end (Tony Curtis is a fully capable backup TE). Was this a good decision, if you looked at it objectively? I assume Bill Parcells made the decision to draft a backup tight end.
Dallas should have used those top 2006 picks on players who could actually help them get better at corner, safety, or even wide receiver.
If Bill Parcells performs at the same level in Miami as he did in Dallas when it comes to 1st day draft decisions the Dolphins will be sorry they hired him.
In my opinion, right now, in 2007, hiring Bill Parcells to handle your draft is an iffy proposition at best.

Drafting in general is always a gamble, most times its a crap shoot. Look what happened with the Fins this year. They drafted Ginn with the first round pick. Everyone was so sure that it was going to be Quinn. Lets take a look at Quinn's stats for this year...
