Heat to 'reassess' Parker's role
Guard rejoins team after alleged altercation with valet
MIAMI (AP) -- Smush Parker rejoined the Miami Heat on Friday, about a month after he was allegedly involved in an altercation with a female valet parking attendant and placed on the team's inactive list.
It isn't clear, though, what the reunion means, or if the point guard will ever play again for the Heat.
"We're reconsidering some options," Heat coach Pat Riley said.
Barring some massive change in the team's thinking, Parker will miss his 17th straight game Friday night when Miami hosts the Orlando Magic.
"It's time to reassess that whole thing," Riley said. "But it isn't today."
Parker was not available for comment after Miami's shootaround practice.
The incident took place Nov. 27, shortly before Heat players were due to arrive for a pregame shootaround practice at Miami's home arena.
Around 9:50 a.m. that morning, Parker was trying to leave a condo building about 21/2 blocks south of the arena and asked for his car, telling attendants that he paid the $12 valet fee, plus tip, the night before.
But the people manning the valet stand in the morning had no record of that payment. An argument ensued, Parker missed that night's game against Charlotte and has remained inactive since.
"We've spent a good month reevaluating and waiting for his situation to resolve itself," Riley said. "At the same time, we've been very active with him."
He makes approximately $27,000 per game, and has been paid by the team during his absence.
Under league rules, a team can essentially put players on the inactive list for any reason. The Heat have 15 players on the roster; only 12 are allowed to dress for each game.
Parker has a $2.4 million player option for next season.
