The thought of watching Roy Williams get pancaked by 300+ Lbs offensive linemen on a consistent basis while the opposing team runs right through the remaining bus sized hole is something that should make the Cowboys and their fans shudder.

he gets shredded by Jeremy Shockey on a regular basis already, there's no way he could guard any TE with 20 pounds added on.
he also can't shed blocks & can't hit gaps in blitzes. He'd be an even bigger failure at LB than he already is at safety.
Roy - when he's right - is an outstanding tackler/run support guy as a safety.
But, if you put him at LB, he's no longer a plus player at that position. There are a lot of LBs that tackle and play the run as well as Williams - who would suddenly being dealing with pulling linemen at the point of scrimmage.
Roy would get run down, probably couldnt make it through a season in a 3-4. He is way to small and would get destroyed by o-linemen all day, nit to mention he cant cover from the safety position, so I dont know how he would be able to cover that close to the line of scrimmage.
Roy is too small to play LB, too fat to play Saftey, and his contract makes him tough to move. I say draft a young stud to get Roy's attention and let him earn a spot in the starting lineup.
I'd like for the Cowboys to draft Kenny Phillips out of Miami, move Hamilin to his natural SS position and let Roy become a good special teams player if he can't crack the starting lineup.
They'll have to move up to make that happen. I like that idea though.
I'd think he'd almost have to play the Will, which likely wouldn't put him in coverage on tight ends. If he played a Sam position, he'd have to deal with tight ends and tackles blocking him at the point of attack. I'm sure he's not big enough to do that on a play-after-play basis. If you put him at the Will, you make him play in space and ask him to play a lot of underneath coverages in zones and to cover backs to a large extent. I just don't see Williams doing those things effectively, and certainly not for the kind of money that he's being paid at the moment.
The Cowboys are not replacing their 3-4 Will backer (Ware) with Roy Williams. That would possibly be an all time bone head coaching move if they actually did that.
Why? So he can suck at two positions? I like the idea of him on Special teams.

He just needs to slim down and he will get quicker. Put him on a weight program for the offseason.
He slimmed down during the offseason of 2007. It's not just that, it's his horrible coverage instincts. He takes horrible angles and looks into the backfield too often while losing his man.
