This trade wasn't made to matchup with any particular team. It was made to address our weakness at the forward position. Lamar Odom is not really a true PF that fits in the triangle offense. He doesn't have a post up game and his midrange jumpshot isn't very good. Pau Gasol is the perfect fit @ the 4 for us. He can post up and hit the midrange jumpshot. Odom can go to the 3 spot and work on facilitating the offense and getting good looks for everyone else. We have 3 7 footers who will control the paint on both ends, leading to more possessions. This trade is about as good as it gets for us.

Ben Wallace and his toxic contract can stay in CHI. Bynum is a far better 2-way player and will eclipse Wallace on the defensive end very soon.

I haven't paid attention to Big Ben the past couple of seasons, so you guys are probabilily more on spot than I am.

However, my point was more about the direction LA went. They decided to take an offense approach, instead of improving their defense and physical toughness.

Geez guys, not all Spurs fans are trying to minimalize this or say that Gasol is soft. Who CARES? I'll take a soft 18 and 9 any day of the freaking week.

The Lakers, point blank, are frightening now. They are easily the #1 threat to the Spurs in the West. They're also now officially the complete mismatch nightmare for the Phoenix Suns. A healthy Lakers team wins that series in 5 games now.
Yeah I know, I would not dare group all of the spurs fans together but right now the haters out number you guys big time.

The thing about Gasol, every body keeps talking about him leading the lakers, he is not here to lead the lakers anywhere. This is Kobe's team and will continue to be so.

I would've been more intimidated with Wallace than Gasol.
The Lakers already had a formidible offense before this trade, regardless you only get so many possessions a game. (PHX has tried to defy this law, it hasn't worked) However, their interior defense could've used a boost. I like Bynum, but he is still very young, and the LA front court could've used some toughness. No offense, it seems LA is trying to match up to beat PHX, but past that, I'm not sure how far this lineup will get them. SPEAKING SOLEY ON THIS SEASON, I think the Wallace trade would've benefited LA more.
Wallace made too much and basically would have brought us the same thing that we got from Kwame. I had said earlier that the lakers would either have to make a trade or change their game. With gasol, they can continue to play the same game. They definitely need a low post scorer and Gasol was probably the best that they could get. Soft or not, he has an offensive game in the post that teams can not ignore. As far as him being soft, believe me, Phil and Kobe will not allow that. AND, we'll send him to Kareem to tighten up his defense. He may not be physical but he can block shots so we have to teach him how to use that ability to our advantage.

The fact that you say we should have gotten Ben Wallace instead of Gasol shows me you know nothing about basketball.

I was thinking why not have Odom come off the bench and play a 6th man type of role? Walton can start at the 3. Just an idea.

He's not going to renew his contract, so me myself, I would rather just stay pat and if odom doesn't work out, next year try to get someone like Ron ron.

I'd rather be a person who knows nothing about basketball with a kind heart than an annoying prick who is dispised by his peers.
