I wouldn't even trade him for the second coming of Jordan.
If his foot started acting up again and he had to take a little rest however![]()
What? Tim has brought us 4 so far. He just needs 2 more to catch up. He ain't retiring anytime soon, so he could even pass him up. Is it really that homer for a fan to say we wouldn't give up Tim for the second coming of MJ?
Why, because he can dunk REALLY REALLY well??? Thats why everyone is talking about him now is it now. That puts him in Tim Duncan's league?
Because Howard can dunk really well, that:
Equates the mastery of defense in the paint that Tim displays.
Equates how cerebral he is on the offensive end of the floor.
Equates how Tim makes his teammates better.
Equates every other nuraunce, intagibles and technical aspects of the game that Tim
possesses, and that has enabled him to be a 4 time champion?
Make no mistake, I think Howard is great young player, but he is in no way in Tim Duncan's class.
I guess it depends how you define secound coming of MJ
is that lebron, Kobe, or grant hill
of the above I wouldn't trade tim for anyone of them.
Homer? Where did I say that?![]()

Pathetic how Mavs fans and everyone else outside of S.A. Spurs can't comprehend this isnt' it?
David, and now Tim, are the Spurs. I'd rather see Tim end his career in S.A. (without anymore rings) than for us to use him and trade him away just to become like every other bag team in the NBA.
No .
Just like in the Iggy/Dalembert for Manu/Elson.
I think Orlando would scoff at that trade. No way they'd make that. Howard isn't even in his prime while Duncan is approaching the end of his in a couple, perhaps few years. I know Tim is one of the greatest players ever and I'd take Duncan anyday over Howard for an entire career, obviously.
Magic would be stupid to make this trade, and wouldn't trade him for anybody (even LeBron).
Well, there is one benefit from doing this trade...
SpursDynasty would have a coronary.![]()
Are you dense? Are you re ed or something? Who the do you think we have? We got the Goddamn Batman!
As a fan it's easy to say no I wouldn't trade him, but think of it from a GMs perspective. In two or three more years yea!!!! Ask yourself this question dominant post presence for ten more years or two more years? Tim is well into his prime and his best basketball is probably behind him. Dwight is in the infant stages of his career and is already showing signs of being something special. By keeping Tim in that scenario you are probably destroying your long term sucess. From a loyalty standpoint it hurts to even think it, but from an objective view you are only looking out for the long term fortunes of the Spurs.
I didn't say you said "homer". You were rolling your eyes at the notion of a fan saying they wouldn't trade him for the second coming of Jordan. Now I'm asking you, if you think that's a homer thing to say.
Kind of like how the rockets treated Hakeem at the end of his career after he alleviated choke city status from houston
or ewing being traded by knicks. trading away the team's franchise player, especially of duncan's stature, can be damaging on the fans' psyche. you have to take the moral highground on this even though its a business. allowing duncan to play out the rest of his career as a spur is one way to say "thank you, timmy." and as a spurs fan, i have alot to be thankful to tim duncan.
besides, duncan has a great chance of retiring a champion. he already laid the groundwork for that when he signed his extension with lesser money. why would you trade him then with that possibility?
Do you?
It's called a bit...
and look how many BIT on the bit even though it was busted from reply #1...![]()
Damn you're an idiot.
People tend to over value their home team players. Duncan is great. One of the greatest. But if you are talking about a trade you have to consider the statistical facts:
Duncan (31.8 years old)
19.6 ppg
11.5 rpg
3.2 apg
0.0 spg
1.9 bpg
.507 fg
.701 ft
34.7 mpg
Howard (22.2 years old)
21.4 ppg
14.5 rpg
1.4 apg
1.0 spg
2.5 bpg
.596 fg
.595 ft
38.6 mpg
I know the thought of trading the greatest player in Spurs history seems Sacraligious but if you made this trade after this season, you could potentially win 3 or 4 more les over the next 8 years with Parker and Ginobli being in their prime.
Oh, we're just talking about Fantasy Basketball? I completely misunderstood, I thought you guys were actually advocating this trade in real life.
