Kevin Garnett is better than all of them
This is true, but the vast majority of former NBA players consider Jordan to be much better than Kobe.
Year by year, people are acknowledging the fact that Kobe may be more talented then Jordan. But till he gets more championships and shows he can lead his team, Jordan will be a "better" player.
Kobe is more talented. Jordan is a better player.
Exactly right.
Back when Kobe joined the NBA, there were murmurings that he was the next Jordan, then that was traded for a talented kid. Then it was a rapist. Then it was best scorer but selfish. Now coaches and players are saying he's the best player in the NBA right now. I don't think there were ever many "consensus" best players in the league besides Jordan.
You notice nobody says he's selfish anymore except for fans?
Nobody here is crazy enough to say Kobe is better than Jordan right now. But given enough time, who knows...the skills are there.
lol so because kobe jacks up more 3's at a slightly better percentage then that means he is a more skilled scorer than jordan?
again...you said kobe is more skilled than jordan yet you can only name ONE thing that he does better.![]()
how in the is kobe more talented if he is statistically inferior in almost every category to jordan?
next thing i know you guys will be telling me that dwight howard is more talented than hakeem or that stro swift is more "talented" than duncan.
So Kobe makes almost double the amount of 3s at a better percent and you dismiss it as "jacks up more 3's at a slightly better percentage)" That's over a thousand more points.
What's the point of debate, you're obviously a hater if you can make a ridiculous statement like that...![]()
have you looked at the numbers?
jordan is a career 33.2% 3 pt shooter (581/1778 in 1072 games)
kobe is a career 34.0% 3 pt shooter (1086/3192 in 866 games)
i didn't know .8% was significant.
1086-581=505 3 pointers difference
505*3= 1500 extra points on 3 pointers. I'd say that was very significant.
Well if you really want to dig deeper into it... you just owned yourself.
Jordan for his career has for the most part dwarfed Kobe's scoring numbers and FG% numbers. And hes doing it with a thousand less points off of 3 point shots. So basically, Jordan outscored Kobe with pretty much all of his shots being 2 point shots, while Kobe has added a thousand more points using the 3 point shot to his advantage, and still cant touch Jordan's scoring averages.
What you said really just shows how much more awesome that Jordan is, in that he doesn't even need a 3 point shot and still kicks Kobe's ass in every way.
Fail.
and i would say 49.7% FG% to 45.3% is significant.
and i would say 30.1 ppg to 25.0 ppg is significant.
i would say 2.3 spg to 1.5 spg is significant.
i would say 6.2 rpg to 5.3 rpg is significant.
i would say 5.3 apg to 4.6 apg is significant.
i would say 2.73 TO/g to 2.9 TO/g is significant.
even jordan averaged .8 bpg to kobe's .6 bpg.
so again...tell me how i am being a hater lol![]()
The other way to look at it is Kobe made 1500 points doing a much more difficult shot. A 3 pointer requires more skill than shots within the arc.
Saying that Jordan scored more points on the inside is pointless because closer is usually easier.
Unless you think hitting the 3 is an easier skill than shooting J's within the arc.
FAIL.
So.... your just re-iterating what we all know... Kobe was a better 3 point shooter than Michael Jordan? If thats all it takes to qualify as being more talented than Jordan..
Reggie Miller > Michael Jordan
Ray Allen > Michael Jordan
Brent Barry > Michael Jordan
Jason Kapono > Michael Jordan
No, please read the thread,
My point is 1,500 points more on 3 pointers is a very nice skill that Kobe has, not just "jacks up some more 3s" like it was nothing special. It's like saying "Oh Jordan just jacked up some fade away jumpers".
good god if the phrase "jacks up 3s" bothers you so much then i will just change it to "shoots more 3s at a marginally better percentage". either way you proved nothing that shows kobe is more "talented" than MJ. all you proved is that he shoots more 3s.
Ah of course, what was I thinking? Shooting 3s doesn't require any skill.
Didn't Phil say that Kobe was the best all-around player he ever coached?
Yeah, neither does finishing in the paint over three players. Who's better at that again?
While we're at it, you might want to look up career playoff PPG. You know, the scoring that really matters, not some, "Look how good I am" 81 point exhibition in a game that didn't mean two s that year.
Careful, though. You might not like what you find if you actually look at the playoffs.
I don't know, you got any stats for that?
Uhm, please read the thread, I already said that Jordan was better because he is a winner. Post season success = Winner. But again, Kobe's career is not done yet so we don't know what the end result will be in the end. This postseason is a great start (33 ppg on 50% sounds familiar) and he probably has 5 good years left. While we're at it, you might want to look up career playoff PPG. Yes and so did Tex Winter who claimed Kobe has grasped the triangle better than any player he's ever seen....including the great Jordan. Look if everyone wants to be stat watchers and box score kreskens than you can look no further than Wilt as most of you haven't even seen him play...but the man put up crazy stats..why isn't he included in this discussion. Oh that's right, because you're all full of .
Phil also said jordan is the best player he ever seen lol, i did like to know when he called kobe the most all rounded player he coached, i am sure he meant it in an elementary way like kobe was young and giving him encouragement, but when he started coaching jordan he was already a complete player, either way 9.8/10 gms or players you ask that have played against both kobe or jordan will tell you jordan is better.![]()
HE MAKES 3'S AT BASICALLY THE SAME PERCENTAGE AS JORDAN! so because kobe centers his game more around the 3 then that means he is more skilled? i didn't know 3 point shooting was the only skill in basketball. wow...can you dig a deeper hole for yourself?
i didn't know phil coached wilt![]()
