You must have a bad memory. See here is how it went down. Horry knew that if he gave a hip check to Nash then some Suns players would be stupid enough to leave the bench area and then be suspended for a game. Not just a game, the ONLY game that counted in the series. He planned it all perfectly.
Same as Horry knew that West would be jumping in the air with his back to the basket so he positioned himself perfectly. Then with ninja like accuracy he delivered the hit to the precise muscles that would trigger a back spasm.

This is the last chance the Spurs will have to repeat...and it's no time for BS trivialities if you want to see that happen(and I know in your heart that you do).
I'd just like you to answer one question for me and I think it will perfectly illustrate the difference in fan mindsets...
Did it occur to you, at any point during that game that that could possibly be the last time Horry would ever be playing a game on his home court in front of his home fans? It could very well be the last time he hears his name chanted...
Did you even think of that during the course of that game?
And I'll let you in on something else...those baseline bums are called smart fans, and they are called smart fans for a reason, and they know ways of interacting with players having done so for decades that the casual fan hasn't got a clue of...
And they also know if they do something the other fans are likely to follow their lead...they are very well aware of this fact and the role they play, the example they set.
For instance, chanting a player's name in his final game...it's a special form of goodbye usually reserved for a certain type of player, not necessarily a Superstar...a player whose contributions are usually hidden in the shadow of their suerpstars, and lost on the casual fan, but are just as important to the teams success as anything...
It's way of saying goodbye...it's a way of saying thanks...we get it.

That's the way Yankee fans...who are the smartest fans in all of sports said goodbye to their Horry....as he retired, and took the late 90's Yankee Dynasty with him...quietly.
Times haven't changed...what's changed is that the Spurs have more fans now...fans who are here or joined when the championships were being won, and will will be gone when this run is over...
But the bums will still be here...
And Robert Horry? If that was his last game in front of his home fans...he's going to remember his name was chanted...and he's going to remember a particular group of fans, whose team he once upon a time hurt with his style of play, and who's team he later won pivotal game 5 finals games in Detroit for...got it. Got him. And it's going to be one of the best memories of his career.

Of course it did. There were people leaving towards the end of the 4th quarter and it was clear that they didn't consider it might be the last home game of the season.
There were other plenty of other moments to chant Horry's name and that actually did happen. The fact that some fans chose that particular moment was crappy. And you can't tell me that they were doing it because it may have been his last home game. If another player had been involved, the crowd would've been chanting their name. I highly doubt it had anything to do with appreciation for the Rob's body of work while he's been a Spur. Do you think he wants to be remembered for that? And for what happened with Nash?

Note to Spur players: if we get past NO and play against a team featuring a player dealing with injury, do not guard them. You can't take the chance that you might upset the fanbase.

from where i was it sounded like the chant started around the area of the baseline bums... perhaps the area above it and quickly spread through the arena.
i think they just thought it was a hard shot and he was in some pain... you can't give the fans the benefit of the doubt in knowing that he had pre existing back problems... i mean my mom was chanting horry and she had no idea what was going on.
the crowd did give west a standing O once it was seen he needed help getting up and held the applause until he went under the entrance.
they chanted his name a few minutes later after he had got hit with another foul... i think it was just an homage to horry being an enforcer than with anything pertaining to the hornets.

But they were watching that foul...which presented the perfect opportunity to send Horry out in style.

I think Horry giggles when he thinks about leveling Nash's ass...I think it makes him feel warm and fuzzy all over, and I think he feels absolutely no remorse or shame for that foul, and probably considers it a major reason they won the next game and went onto win their fourth NBA championship...And for what happened with Nash?
Becuase Robert Horry has no conscience when it comes to ripping an opposing team or players hearts out...
IF he hit 99 clutch shots in a row against your team to win 99 consecutive game 7's in 99 consecusitve Finals and he has won 99 consecutive championships by beating your team 99 consecutive times...as he is taking the 100th consecutive shot to beat your team in it's 100th consecutive Game 7 in it's 100 consecutive Finals to win his 100th consecutive championship and deal you your team it's 100th consecutive loss...
Not for one instant would Robert Horry thinking of missing that shot and letting you win one...he'd hit it more true and accurately than he had the 99 that came before it...and he'd feel good about doing it. And he'd look at you like you just don't get it as your heart is ripped out.
He would not feel sorry for you for one instant...he does not have that part of a compe ive mind...he is not contaminated with that weakness.
Because it is a game...and it is about compe ion, and their job is to beat the other team...and Robert Horry never gets confused about that.
Not for one second is he ever confused about his purpose and objective on the court in relation to the other team.
And that's why he's got 7 rings.
That's why you want him on your team and not on the other team...
And that's why you chant his name when he is possibly playing in his last game if you get the chance to do so...
There's also that whole setting the tone and not playing like wimps thing...but it's a given that Horry always sets that tone.
SO you tell me then...why did they chant his name?

For them to cheer another SPurs player doing it, another player would be having to do it, and in case you haven't noticed...there aren't any. Hopefully the players were listening to the fans chanting Horry's name...and not the ones hoping David West isn't offended...because the offended fans aren't going to be the ones focusing on the game 7 at hand...but they'll be complaining every bit as loudly if the Spurs lose....and they'll probably be calling them weak and soft.
