Also after reviewing that draft, The Spurs could have drafted John Stockton, they drafted Alvin Robertson instead.
Well if they had drafted Stockton, they may not have sucked enough to get the #1 pick that would lead to their salvation.

It's not really fair that you guys are making fun of Dajuan Wagner. He had some sort of disease that made his health really go downhill. The guy was super talented and sure to be a superstar in the league before his body failed him.

Christian Laettner: Went from a 17-7 type player during the first six years of his career to a 10-5 player the next five, to a 6-5 player his final four seasons. His best year was his rookie year.

Isaiah Rider: Went from 19 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg in 1999-2000 to 8 ppg, 2 rpg, 1 apg in 2000-2001... never averaged double figures thereafter.

Jamaal Mashburn: Can anyone explain how he averaged 23 ppg his first three years, then averaged just 15 ppg his next four (spanning two teams), then averaged over 21 ppg his final four seasons? I know Miami slowed things way down, but Mashburn averaged 13 ppg over a three year span from 1996-97 through 1998-99.

I think he had intestinal parasites.

Wagner was out of the league after three years. He had multiple leg injuries, but he also was sick and getting sicker. Worse, nobody knew why.

As far back as 12th grade, Wagner had been having stomach pain. He assumed it was just something that he had to deal with. It just kept getting worse. He was playing in the NBA while he was losing his appe e and weight. He was living with a condition that would make it almost impossible for a person to work, much less work in the NBA.

Wagner was eventually diagnosed with colitis, inflammation of the colon or large intestine. Last October, he underwent major surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

“He was very, very sick, when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers (in 2005),” said Dr. Joel Bauer, who performed the surgery. “We did an operation on him and, basically, he’s recovered phenomenally.”

Playing in two summer leagues, one in Cherry Hill, N.J., and another in Philadelphia, Wagner is putting up Wagner-like numbers again. On consecutive nights in late July, he had 65 and 67.

I saw him at Drexel the first Thursday night of August. It was the end of the third day of the insane heat wave. The gym had no air conditioning. It was the hottest place I have even been in my life. Breathing was difficult. Sweating was not optional. Wagner, a classic scoring guard, was playing for the third time in three nights. He had an off night, scoring 57.

I hope so too, but this article is like almost 2 years old. He's still young enough to make a comeback (like 25 i think) but it makes you wonder what's the hold up..

NBA GMs and scouts salivating over the "next big thing" via the draft is probably one reason.

He should be hitting his physical prime soon and could contribute.

Have we all noticed a trend among a few of the people on this list? Shawn Kemp, JR Rider, Christian Laettner?

Answer: Cocaine. (Actually, in Rider's case, violent crimes have done him in, but I think it can all trace back to one thing... crack.)

Yeah Wagner was having a spectacular rookie season as well, especially in the second half because he was hurt in the first half. I remember there were articles being written over who was better in the future Yao or him. And then the summer came, he got hurt, and we never heard from him again.

Even Mashburn was dealing with some issues, some sort of ear infection I think that also gave him migranes.

Ben Wallace and Steve Francis are at the top of the list for me. In about one year, those guys went off the map.

Antoine Walker fell off right after the 06 championship with the Heat, eventhough he was already on a decline as a player. Now he can't get out of the bench for the T-Wolves. How is that possible????

There is another player that I am thinking of, some Alexander dude, played for the Wizards when Jordan came back. He was supposed to be a great backcourt partner, and was having a nice start to his career, then he too just dissapeared.

Remember how in Dallas, everyone's chodes exploded when we drafted Alexander, Thomas, AND Harvey? We thought we drafted a dynasty. Turns out it was just spare, spare, and giant spare.

Josh, Dirk, Najera and Devin are just about the only draft picks we've had worth a crap in quite some time. Oh wait, we technically didn't draft Dirk or Eddie, just acquired them on draft night.
