better to be getting less money from multiple sources than to have one man essentially buying a public school.
It is going to be a fund matching campaign up to 500M is what I'm told. He will match all academic endowments made up to 500M; the goal is 1B.
The university should use that money to move the school out of Shi er (ROFL).
God bless Pickens State University![]()
Homebuyers will find a wide variety of styles and prices in Stillwater. Well-planned neighborhoods with tree-lined streets feature single-family homes, apartments and retirement centers, all at a cost below that of major metropolitan areas.
Stillwater’s average cost of housing was more than 20 percent below the U.S. average in 2007, according to the American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association (ACCRA) Cost of Living Survey. Stillwater’s cost of living averages around 10 percent below the national average.
National studies have extolled Stillwater’s great quality of life. Stillwater was named “Dream Town, USA – #6 Best Small City in America!” by Demographics Daily online magazine, and ranked in Bizjournal’s Top 20 “Best Places to Live” in 2006. According to Safe Communities in America, Stillwater is “One of America’s Safest 100 Cities.”
Stillwater ranked fourth as most affordable college football Towns
While Muncie, Indiana, ranks as the most affordable big football town for housing in the United States, according to an annual survey released Tuesday by Coldwell Banker. Stillwater/Oklahoma State comes in at fourth place.
Home prices in Muncie, home to the Ball State University Cardinals, average $150,000 for a 2,200-square-foot single-family house with four bedrooms, two and-a-half baths, family room and two-car garage. On the high end -- Palo Alto, Calif., home to the Stanford Cardinals, was the most expensive college town for the third straight year. A comparable home in Palo Alto averaged $1.67 million. Coincidentally, Muncie and Palo Alto have both recently upgraded their football stadiums. Ball State renovated its Scheumann Stadium while the one-year-old Stanford Stadium seats 50,000.
"College towns remain a popular living destination - whether they are first time homeowners or alumni looking for great retirement spots," Jim Gillespie, Coldwell Banker's chief executive, said in a release. "School spirit draws many alumni back to their alma mater and for others, continuing their education, pursuing jobs, enjoying cultural activities and following college sports make these communities ideal homes," he said.
The above quote partially explains why Stillwater was ranked the 6th Best Small City in America by US World and Trade Report. Factors include low crime, NCAA intercollegiate Athletics, fine arts, the State’s best K-12 education, restaurants galore and very friendly people. More and more alumni/retired faculty are returning to Stillwater/Oklahoma State where they can attend games, enjoy the beautiful campus and visit with old friends, roommates, colleagues, brothers and sisters.
Most affordable college football towns - Nov. 6, 2007 ...the best bargains for big-time college sports and affordable housing.
You can say the same things about College Station... in fact, I could probably find articles out there extolling the same things about safety and tree-lined streets and affordable housing, but it's a waste of time. You could probably say the same things about a lot of small college towns, except Durham, NC because they rape strippers.
If Pickens ever decides to become a rapper, he should take the handle "T-Bone Slim."
BTW, T. Boone Pickens is the same oil tycoon on record saying that Peak Oil has already arrived, and the era of America as superpower will be over shortly.
Well, yeah, but he'll be dead soon and he will leave us the rest of his money, so its all good.
