I pointed out that LA fans and sportswriters, in particular, have no room to be hurling certain insults about our city. Your best bet right now is to stick to basketball discussions, because your city has more than its share of problems. And all the things I said are facts, and not just bigoted bull .

And I started by pointing out that the Lakers lost a playoff series after being up 3-1, just two seasons ago. And that was a team coached by the Zen Master, and with a very similar roster to this year's Lakers team.

I also pointed out that last year's Lakers had a VERY similar roster, and got pounded by the Suns, who in turn got beated by the Spurs - who had a VERY similar roster to this year's Spurs. Pau Gasol in place of a healthy Andrew Bynum? You don't really believe that is going to take the Lakers from first-round flop to NBA champs?

When this series goes to 2-2 the pressure is going to be on the Lakers to hold serve. And they will know that they only have to stumble once.
LA is not my city, I'm a student here, but I fail to see what's so great about SA. The 05-06 roster was not remotely similar. Kwame Brown, Smush Parker, Brian Cook, Mo Evans, Von Wafer, Devin Green, Laron Profit, Devean George, Medvedenko, Jim Jackson, and Aaron Mckie were all on the 05-06 roster. That's 11 members on that roster that's not on the current roster. Besides Kobe, Lamar, and Luke , the Lakers are basically a completely different team. Players like Sasha, and Ronny were extremely young and they have obviously improved. Check your facts, the roster is completely different.

And your whole discussion about colleges is moot. You have 150,000 high school dropouts every year. Newsflash: those people won't be going to college. Why in would you allow high school age kids to work 48 hours per week when you have over a 30% dropout rate?

Look in a mirror before you start trash talking other people.

Again, you keep asking others not to trash your precious city, but you keep insisting on trashing LA. Why do you keep talking about things not related to basketball and keep asking me to do the opposite. Are you en re ed ?

And for the record, my wife is from LA and graduated from Claremont (one of the Pomona colleges). I went to Stanford for two years, but came back to be with my dad through chemotherapy. I suspect I know as much about California universities as the loudmouths posting here.

San Antonio is a great city, with great people. Every time I go to LA I am amazed at the superior at ude that so many people there have, as they commute an hour and a half each way to work. There is good and bad to every place. And LA definitely isn't any better on balance than other cities.

Why do you care about LA's high school dropouts anyways ? What do you plan to do about it? If you haven't done to help out their problems, you got no room to talk. It's their lives not yours.

With all your Stanford education, you sure sound pretty ignorant. I am amazed by how much hypocrisy you babbled.

You sound like a fraud. Claremont's not one of the Pomona Colleges, it's the other way around.

You would be correct on both counts.

Sadly there are fans on both sides who are too stupid to figure that out.

Trinity College is about as compe ive as say Loyola Marymount and it's not even a liberal arts college. Don't know what Downtown was talking about.
Did you attend Trinity (and it's Trinity University, not Trinity College)?

I'll say this: I attended both Trinity and a true Ivy League university (Columbia) and can attest to my first-hand knowledge that Trinity, as an undergraduate ins ution, is as academically rigorous as Columbia.

And I did well at each.

Kobe, Bynum, Vujacic, Turiaf, Walton, and Odom. Smush Parker's numbers were amazingly similar to Fisher's this year. And they had Devean George, who Lakers fans thought a lot of.

I never said it was the same roster, but it sure as looks similar to me. Are you saying that team was so bad that losing a series with a 3-1 lead was expected? Shouldn't the Zen Master have been able to figure out some way to keep that from happening?

The point is, a lot of the players on the floor tonight have a very fresh memory of blowing a series lead. And the Spurs have a very fresh memory of coming back from 0-2. When this series goes to 2-2, which team do you think is going to start having doubts?

No, but I know it's definitely not the best liberal arts college in the west. You're the one that made the bold claim that Trinity is more rigorous than any university in metropolitan LA. Have you attended any of the top universities in metropolitan LA? Have you attended UCLA, Caltech, SC, Pomona ? Exactly.

You're right, it's the Claremont system. (I wasn't the one who went there.) I should know better, as often as they solicit contributions. Claremont McKinna and Pomona are sister schools, nonetheless.

Why do you keep mentioning Bynum when he's not even playing. He played like 80 minutes total in 05-06. Fisher is not remotely close to Smush in terms of impact, to think that they are just proves how stupid you are. A lot of Lakers fans thought highly of Devean? WTF are you smoking. And I'm sure the only experience Phil can rely on from his 9 championship career is that one series againgst Phoenix.

I doubt that there's any university more academically rigorous than CalTech.

If you don't like San Antonio, don't live there. If you prefer Los Angeles live there. Who gives a damn, really?

I love the mentality of those who believe that living in a particular city or rooting for a particular team makes them better than those who live elsewhere and root for other teams. I just screams insecurity about those choices.
If you make enough coin any place is quite nice.

It's probably "worth attending" and might, arguably at least, be more academically rigorous than any college or university in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. But that's probably just my stilted opinion.
Cal Tech is not a liberal arts college.
I'm pretty sure he said any college or university.

I love this post - those who are being rough to GSH are delusional. He's speaking the truth about something that has been happening pretty frequently in the last week or so and it hasn't been taken care of appropiately.

I've never been to San Antonio or LA, I live in Atlanta but I always hear very nice things about SA and lived in Houston for a while so I know Texas. All you can see about LA is gangs, murder, celebrities and all kinds of good and bad things.

The city smack is ridiculous to say the least.

There is momentum in any sport, and it has a lot to do with confidence and pressure. When Tiger Woods is catching up behind you, the cup starts to look the size of a thimble. And every great shot Tiger hits makes him swing looser on the next one. You bet your ass it happens in basketball too.

If the Spurs take it to 2-2 tonight, the Lakers are going to start thinking of both remaining games in LA as must-wins.

The Lakers haven't forgotten that they have been down 20 twice in this series. And they know the Spurs won't let a lead like that slip away again. Momentum, pressure... call it what you want to. But if the series goes to 2-2, the Lakers will be the ones feeling it.
Momentum and pressure are two different things. You must not have taken physics.

Continuing the argument is pointless, in the end. I love my city and think that it has at least one absolutely stellar university to boast among its many other fine qualities. You, it seems, find that it lacks redeeming qualities that exist in Los Angeles, including your suggestion that it might lack even a worthwhile university.

There's no way for me to convince you otherwise and I'm certain that you can't convince me otherwise.

To each his own, I suppose.

This is precisely why city smack (and now college smack) is a waste of time.
