Oh, yea . . . because they're showing up in droves to support America in Iraq.
You make sense.
You know, that was a pretty amusing retort.

Anyway, Obama won the nomination.
I saw his speech last night and a couple of things stood out for me.
One was how he praised Hillary and talked about her many great qualities and how she had so much experience going to when she helped to set up the childrens defense fund when she was younger to when she served as the First Lady during Bill's administration all the way to her "excellent" work as a Senator.
The other was how he praised Bill Clinton and his two terms as President and how much he did for America and the Democratic Party.
The reason this stood out is because during his campaign vs. Hillary, he used them as negatives. All of a sudden they are great accomplishments??
Now, he is a damn good orator, to be sure. But, I just don't believe in him.
Simple solution to this: add Hillary to your ticket as a VP, because as much as the redneck types that would assassinate a black president hate a black president...the other option is a woman president and they really hate the thought of that.
However, I think that America can't get past the color of his skin and will vote McCain (aka Bush's 3rd term). It's funny because people are ing about Bush at all time levels, but they will vote McCain- a guy whose stances are similar if not identical to Bush's. I don't really care for Obama because my views don't really match his- but I'll admit one thing, he is better than the alternatives. I hope the 20somethings come out in full force and take over this election. This can be the election where the 20somethings stick it to their parents and stop the ridiculous bigotry that goes on in our country

don't know, but if obamessiah gets it i'll start the countdown for another attack here at 1 year.
i go to lots of open mike nights.
Waking up today and reading the Newspaper Headlines has brought a huge smile to my face!! The time is NOW!!
I'll be surprised if he adds HRC to the ticket. Too much damage has been done imo. Plus I think she would try to undermind him every chance she got. But I agree with you in thinking that he won't win the general election.
That is not surprising coming from a non-believer.
it's almost like he is too good of a speaker, like he makes too much sense. This country would rather elect someone that sounds dumb while he is screwing you over (Bush)- the logic is, if he sounds like an idiot he isn't going to be a greasy oil salesman and screw us over. I think that might hurt Obama muchlike it could be said for Kennedy- he makes too much sense, speaks too well that people think he is full of bull .
all you need is a second shooter...

First of all, contrary to public opinion and people who don't know about history, Kennedy really wasn't all that great a President. His inexperience and temperament actually got his ass mixed up in the nuclear crisis that he got us "out from".
Secondly, Obama making "too much sense" is a bit premature. I can appreciate what he would like to do. But, realistically we're not equipped to make good on all his promises. Financially, we're strapped. Has he explained how he's going to turn this economy around? Does he have experience doing it?
The last President to turn the economy around has been bashed by Obama himself, regardless of how much he praised him in last night's speech.
So, what's all this change about? And, if your answer is that he's not part of "old politics" and that he's not part of a Bush or "Clinton" dynasty . . . then why not vote for Ralph Nader. Nader being someone who is extremely anti-corporation and anti-establishment. Nader is also experienced in making change. He's actually done it.
Why isn't he getting the same respect? Is it because he's white?
I have a hard time giving a about two people who wasted a ridiculous amout of resources fighting each for the opportunity to fight someone else. All either one had to say is "I will give you 1.50 gas, somehow some way" and it would have been over. Sounds crazy but both of them stood up and promised all kinds of outlandish that is highly unlikely to materialize anyway and wasted millions if not more doing so. Why not just promise the one thing people give a about and thats cheap gas. They could have saved million to fight that effort.
Nothing and no one can bring about change. Its all about readjusting to stink in either another place or stink in a whole different way. None of these three HRC, Black Momba or McCain has a vision of a total makeover. They just want to tweak things. So what you'll be left with is a series of one thing gets better two get worse and so on.
Until someone with a massive overhaul plan ala Paul wins over the hearts of Americas or better put the hearts of the super wealthy and important this Country stands to get no better. Just keep polishing new portions of the turd every 4 years.
The US is run by terrorists, they're just not Islamic.
It's the nature of politics- Bush attacked McCain back in 2004 and now they are buddies come 2008. It's just the way it is.
Also, Bush claimed that if Kerry became President in 2004 that gas would reach prices as high as $3.25 a gallon. He used it as a tracker on his website to scare people away from voting for Kerry. There was a widget on his website that would track how much gas would increase in comparison with Kerry's plans working out. Now that we look back, $3.25 a gallon ain't all that bad is it?
I don't need a President to promise me the world- I know they can't change everything, but all I ask for is a guy that has a good head on his shoulders, won't turn corrupt, and has views similar to mine- in this election Obama is the closest I have to meeting my criteria
I was somewhat being somewhat sarcastic with my rant but no 3.25 is better than where we are but still a far cry from what I consider functional and reasonable.
The best part of a good conversation is when a troll shows up and its poorly thought out and not funny. Its what really completes the entire picture for me.
See I don't know, like I said yesterday I have some warped views and one of them is that I think gas should be in the $3 a gallon range. I think that oil companies should be watched heavily to insure they conduct ethical business, but I also do not think American's should get a free ride with cheap gas while other countries are stuck paying more. In a perfect world Americans would adjust their habits and drive less and not own giant SUVs and Trucks for no other reason than they think they need it. If gas gets cheap then it allows people to suck up national resources and not be affected by it. Think about it, if every jackass that drives to work alone in his Hummer or big 4x4 truck switched to a smaller car cutting his gas usage in half- gas wouldn't be $3 a gallon. I say this because America could be self sufficient in terms of producing oil if we used less. On any given year America is top 3 in terms of oil production (some years we are #1), so sometimes when we think Middle East we think about how we are dependent on their oil- but we arn't. We are only dependent because we hog and use so much that we need them to help offset our deficit in oil production. If everyone used less, we could cut down on the oil we depended on from the middle east, thus cutting out tariffs, thus lowering gas prices. The problem is- like I've said on here before- Joe Schmo American thinks that he needs to drive a Ford F250 everyday because he has a boat he hauls 2x a year -a boat he can no longer afford gas for which is paradoxical because the reason he can't afford gas in the first place is because of what he drives everyday.
Well if he/she can't afford it then it all works itself out now doesn't it? You can't cap or control personal taste. I own a 1,400.00 pool cue, some would themselves if they knew that others would know in the grand scheme of the billiard world that a nice custom one off cue for 1,400.00 is a pretty good bargin. 10 classic cars is wasteful to some people and dream for others.
I think gas is artificially inflated right now because the rich see an easy way to get richer, not to mention the powers to be stand to be better off if they turn their cheek to the business aspect of it. I don't think we live in a world of 1 dollar gas any longer but 4 is way out there. Somewhere between 2 and 3 seems about right. We certainly wouldn't be balls deep in some of this excessive inflation right now if gas wasn't over the top.
I'm just glad that I was able to share this History making event with my children. Regardless of your political affiliation Barack Obama has made history and our Country has taken a major step and for that I am happy. Regardless of who wins in November I will remember this day along with my children for the rest of my life. And they have a great story to tell to my grandchildren. God Bless the USA!!
I have nothing against personal taste, I myself own some expensive things that other people would never spend money on. An example, I just bought a art print for $1100 (it was actually a deal). 2 things about this a)I could afford it when I bought it (not being y, just making the point that I didn't bury myself just to buy it) and b)spending this money didn't affect anyone else but me and the seller.... the same goes for your pool cue, but does not go for the guy who has a personal taste to drive a Hummer. Him driving a Hummer everyday even though he can afford the gas is sucking up resources that WILL run out. He/she is taking more of the resources than the next guy, and all I am saying is that if you don't NEED to do that, then don't.
I made this decision 3 months ago. I drove a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, I realized that there is a oil crisis and me being a single 24 year old guy didn't need to drive that big car when I wasn't using it for anything more than everyday driving. My place of employment pays for my gas so it wasn't a matter of saving money, it was a decision based on 2 things, a new car could get me a warranty, and 2 I was being wasteful. That is all Americans have to do, just know when enough is enough.
Your print and my pool cue used resources that will dry up as well. Most but not all paints are oil based.
Trust me when I tell you the truck and full size SUV world is hurting right now. Some of the dealers I know are having a real hard time moving used inventory outside of compact cars. Nothing is going to change and expecting Americans to give a about the emmission and pollutants is like expecting a women to control her mood swings during menstration.
I know my print used resources--paper, ink (it's a screen print), and oil to transport it to me, but it's impossible to find anything that doesn't use resources, and yes almost every resource will infact dry up. However, me buying 1 of 150 prints out there doesn't have the same affect on the world as the guy that fills up his Suburban once every 5 days. I must be insane because I truly believe that people can and will change, but it's just that change isn't easy to happen. Let's use this election as an example, you you think that Obama could have ever won the Democratic seat in the 70's? No way, but things change. I think that if people could just take a step back, and realize that they don't NEED the things they currently have, it could better everyone's lives but mostly the younger generations.
I'm not one of those guys that is a total tree hugger, or presses my beliefs on everyone I encounter. I am guilty at buying just like everyone is, but I atleast try my best to do things that atleast change what I used to do- that is all you can ask for EVERYONE in America to do- just do what you can. I used my car example, another is that when I go to the grocery I bring my own bags. Some people look at me as if I'm crazy, but think about the wastefulness of plastic bags, and how many are used each year. It wouldn't be hard for people to bring their own bags, or if you are buying 1 or 2 items to say 'I don't need a bag' to the cashier. It's all small things, but small things can add up.
The government may change small things along the way but people as whole don't change much unless some one forces them to. Had they not changed the laws about black people white people would still be hating and pressing on. most still do anyway. People expect other people to guide us so there for you'll be left with a Country of people who won't change unless they're forced to.
