Hopefully our guys can help you NOT get 30+ runs scored on you hahahahahaha

Sheeesh don't remind me. It's bad enough everytime Mel post I have to see that debacle as a reminder... Now if only someone would be stupid enough to take Baez. (oops I mean someone smart enough to take a quality pitcher as him)

there's really no response to that.

i remember watching that game, it was 3-0 O's in the third when I left for my evening class. when i heard on the radio that the rangers had put up 30, i figured they had done it over both halves of the doubleheader...nope.

What the heck! I just read it on foxsports website. Why would the Astros give up young pitching prospects for Miguel Tejeda. He is a good bat, but he is approaching 32. He isn't that good on the field anymore. Everrett isn't the best hitter, but he was a darn good SS.

Not on the Astros he's not. Pence is infinitely more valuable.

draytons man love for tejada is unbelievable.

luke scott could put up the same numbers as tejada did last season.
patton could be a #3 but his velocity already declined however i think he could still be of use.
albers has great stuff but way too inconsistent. decent relief pitcher. i dont think he will ever be a good starter.
sarfate sucks losing this guy he was really impressive with the astros who got him for cash from the brewers. i saw him as a setup reliever. great stuff 100mph+ fastball
costanzo eh didnt know anything cuz he from phillies. dont think he will ever turn into a great MLB hitter just a pure power hitter.

everett being released well doesnt that just make this a 6 for 1 trade... pretty lame. guess everett was hurt more than originally thought.

i still dont see why sarfate had to be in the deal scott/patton/albers should have been enough. costanzo was a throw in for any deal.

now for the astros response to Tejada being in the mitc report tomorrow should be interesting.

At 29, he likely is what he is at this point - which is an above average ML outfielder.

Superstar - probably not. But if the O's hold onto him, he'll fit nicely in leftfield with Markakis entrenched in right.

If you really think about it, the Astros are in the same boat before they made the trade.

Tejada's not going to be suspended. There are so many names mentioned in the report (and his was only rumor), that he's not going to receive the worst treatment from fans elsewhere.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

That's a pretty ignorant statement. Scott didn't get his chance until 2 years ago because of a loaded Houston outfield.

    Matt Holliday was .290 his 1st 121 games, 86 SO, 57 RBI, 14 HR.
    Luke Scott was .295 his 1st 99 games, 66 SO, 41 RBI, 10 HR.

His 1st full season was on a completely limp Houston team.

I'm glad you can forcast the future off of one full season. Can you tell me the lottery #s next week?

    Or...

I looked at a lot more than just one season - mainly his age + his career minor league numbers. He never had a great minor league season at any level until he was quite a bit older and more experienced than his compe ion at those levels. And yes, there is a high correlation between that and future success (sometimes VERY accurately).

Matt Holliday was 24 when he posted the numbers you show, Luke Scott is 29. That's a significant point that you just gloss over.

Plus, Scott has been helped to date by a very high BABIP. I'd explain that, but I'm sure you know all about BABIP, since you're not 'ignorant' and all.

All that said, I REALLY like getting Scott back in that trade. He's an above average player and will likely be the best Orioles LF since BJ Surhoff in the late 90s. By himself, he'll probably out-produce Tejada next year (at a position that makes his numbers less valuable than Miggy's).

    But he's not a superstar.

    bump.

Curious to know the thoughts of Astros fans on the trade now that we are a few months into the season.

    Astros:

    Miguel Tejada - .303 AVG, 9 HR, .821 OPS, 114 OPS+

    Orioles:

    Luke Scott - .277 AVG, 11 HR, .871 OPS, 134 OPS+
    Matt Albers - 2.74 ERA, 42.2 IP, 23/17 K-BB.
    Dennis Sarftate - 3.38 ERA, 29.1 IP, 33/20 K-BB
Troy Patton - Recovering from surgery

From the Orioles perspective, they have to be quite pleased with how this deal is turning out. Albers and Sarfate have made large contributions to what has been - quite surprisingly - one of the best bullpens in baseball. Scott has not only replace, but actually exceeded Tejada's production - however, it's not exactly apples to apples, since Miggy plays a position where it is tougher to find offense.

Thoughts? Would you do the trade again (or would you have the first time)?

I just think Miggy T provieds more then a threat offensivly. He has a certain something you cant replace with prospects.
