That's not good. So much for that "in 5 weeks it'll be gone" optimism on that ankle before the games.
He said that he doesn't know if he will play in the Olympics or not. He is still having trouble with his ankle. He will rest for the next three weeks and then fly to San Antonio to have more studies. He will decide there if he plays or not. Pop doesn't want him to play in the Olympics injured.

Don't pull another Grant Hill, Manu.
If it hurts, rest, don't play.
Yessssssssssssss!!!
Sorry, Argentine Spurs fans but I'm hoping Manu takes the summer off. The Spurs need him rested now more than ever for the odd-year championship run.
oh man. was lookin forward to these olympics with Manu. but if he's injured what can you do. oh well. he will retire a world champ
That´s what doctors says four weeks ago. Manu says that nothing change![]()
In three weeks we'll know if Manu will behave, be a good boy and sit out....
...or try to pull a Tiger Woods and realize he's not Tiger Woods and up our season as the new Grant Hill.
kidding aside, I have a feeling Pop and Manu will talk about it, and they'll decide for him not to play.
When you reach a certain age, things take longer to heal. He's stubborn as all though. So, we'll see if his judgement or pride comes in to play.
"things take longer to heal"
His ankle sprain in the 2002 Worlds in summer 2002 took him out until Feb 2003, but then he was unlimited for the 2003 post-ASB run.
This injury seems different from just sprained ankle ligaments. Unchanged in 4+ weeks?
Manu told the press he was talking with doctors and will come back to SA for more tests.
This is bad![]()
I think that when all is said and done, we are going to find out just how injured Manu really was. AND, we're going to gain some insight into how Pop said Manu is the most compe ive player he's ever coached, even in the face of such an injury.
Manu needs to figure out who signs that $9 million paycheck: Argentina or the San Antonio Spurs.
It is ridiculous that he is even considering playing with that ankle and the way his body wore down and out in the playoffs. He should stay in San Antonio and lift weights all summer.
now do laker fans see this was way more serious than just a "minor" injury.
i think most people think he was just sore from his ankle. wouldnt be surprised if this requires some kind of surgery
Press: "Is that bad?"
Manu: "I'm more scared than you"
.
If he's not completely healed, I don't want him to play in the Olympics either. I was going to tune into the basketball if he played but...well, maybe I will.....I feel the USA will win the gold with our NBA all stars.
Get well Manu!!!!![]()
Double .
manu hates lossing
I think he does to
...But true.
Manu said... "The injury is not allowing me to stretch the articulation. In three weeks I will have some new tests but I feel that my participation in the Olympic Games is at risk"
Also, regarding the ankle..."After the season was over they run some tests in the left ankle and they found a lot of liquid and stretched ligaments. Now, they did a MRI and the liquid was gone, but the ligaments were still very stretched, between four and five times the normal size"
Some optimism..."I don't want to consider the possibility of not been there. I am optimist. I want to play and I'll do everything to be there".![]()
The Spurs FO knew that Manu represents his country in these compe ons when they offer that contract. If they wanted to decide on Manu`s right to play for his NT, they should have paid for that right.
cia manu?
That's a quote from Pop on June 1. It's only been two and a half weeks since Manu had his injection on his ankle.“He’s got to heal and he’s going to have that time,” Popovich said. “We started that process today with Manu and he’ll be off of his ankle for the next four to five weeks. Obviously we couldn’t do that during the playoffs, would have been great if we could have, but he’ll be off of it for a good month for sure.
It sounds to me like Ginobili's rehab is right on course. Two and a half weeks after starting his rehab and it sounds like the swelling is down. Stretched ankle ligaments don't return to normal size overnight.
I don't think there is anything to worry about. I've never heard of even a minor ankle injury that completely heals in two and a half weeks. My guess is that about a month from now Ginobili will be healthy enough to play.
Hopefully for the Spurs Ginobili decides to retire from international compe ion on the top. Go out like David Robinson. Rest up the ankle and get ready for next season.
But I expect him to try to play and I expect him to be healed enough in plenty of time. Two and a half weeks for an ankle injury is way to soon to start worrying.
no way! he's serious on this.
If he wants to go out on top without angering the entire country of Argentina, he does have a built in excuse.
