It sounds to me like Ginobili's rehab is right on course. Two and a half weeks after starting his rehab and it sounds like the swelling is down. Stretched ankle ligaments don't return to normal size overnight.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. I've never heard of even a minor ankle injury that completely heals in two and a half weeks. My guess is that about a month from now Ginobili will be healthy enough to play.

I hope Gino plays, has a wonderful time, and comes home healed & refreshed.

The Olympics is a huge deal and I want Gino to get the full joy of the experience.

    Ginobili could miss Olympics
    PA SportsTicker
    Published: Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Manu Ginobili has admitted he could miss the Olympics Games in Beijing thus summer as he battles a lingering ankle problem.

The San Antonio Spurs guard was hurt during the NBA play-offs series against Phoenix and told a press conference on Wednesday that scans of his right ankle have found some ligament damage.

"I want to tell you that the ankle injury is worse than I thought," Ginobili said. "As soon as the season was over, I had a more thorough scan. It found a lot of fluid in the area and the ligament is strained.

"I've had another MRI scan and the fluid is gone, but the ligament is still strained. The injury does not allow me to stretch the joint. In three weeks I will have more tests but I feel my presence at the Olympics is at risk."

Ginobili admitted he was worried because he has not had such an injury before.

"It is not a normal twist," he said. "I have had normal twists, but I have never experienced anything like this before. It's a matter of waiting to see what happens.

Ginobili helped Argentina win gold in Athens four years ago and is desperate to help his country defend their le in August.

He added: "I do not want to consider the possibility that I will not play. I am waiting for the results of the tests, which should be released on July 5 or 6."

Manu aggravated the injury by continuing to play after hurting his foot vs the Suns. I'm pretty sure the Sours would not have blamed him if he had decided at the time to call it quits. Most players would probably have called it a day. But not Manu.. I just hope this isn't a career-changing injury.

The only good thing about him playing in the Olympics is it means that he's healthy again.

I'm sure Manu won't play if doctors don't green light him.

I think he's warming up everyone to the idea that if the ligament is not back to normal in another 3 weeks or so, he's just not going to play. I think he understands that not only it may be counterproductive to the Argentina squad, it can also turn into a chronic issue (Remember that when they did an MRI right before the Lakers series, they found some artrithis on the ankle, and according to the doctors, it was probably from trying to play on it when he got injured on the 2002 World Championship)

I'm sure the doctors will laugh him off; If Manu tried to say that as well. Then again if Manu brings home the Gold in a Tiger like fashion, he'll be a bad ass m'fer too.

As much as i feel for Manu that he could miss the olympics , i took it as a positive that he is contemplating missing it. If the ankle is recovering slower than expected then he owes it to the Spurs to give it the best chance of healing. That means resting up getting it back to 100 percent before the season starts.

Don't pull another Grant Hill, Manu.

If it hurts, rest, don't play.
he may have done that already playing in the playoffs.
