It's really not realistic to think any other but Team USA has a shot at the gold. This year they are just too damn talented and willed.
As hater posted, Team Argentina would be lucky to get bronze, part because they are not a surpirse anymore and the fact that their roster is far worse than 2004. As Timvp said, both point guards are just terrible. Ricky Rubio, the 18 year old point from Spain just ate both Prigioni and Porta for breakfast. Imagine how Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Jason Kidd would toy with them.
On the other hand Argentina is just not deep enough. Outside its NBA talents (which fail miserably on any position matched up against Team USA) there is nothing at the bench worth a dime.
i'll be the first to say that this argentina is not as good as 04, and will have to play near perfect to beat the better teams. i'll be more than satisfied with a bronze.
but im a little shocked at how overconfident some US fans are. this is basically the same team that lost to greece in 06, and greece doesnt even have NBA players. also, this team may have shooters, but it lacks bigmen and because fouls are called so different in FIBA, the US may see itself playing smallball for long stretches, when historically, the US' main advantage over other teams was precisely their front court.
root for your team, by all means. but to say that the US will win just because they want revenge is a horrible argument. they supposedly wanted revenge in 04 because of 02, in 06 because of 04, in 08....

Weak sauce and we know this. Security can be a beefed up for the Americans in the Village. There are other athletes that have fame. Most of the time this excuse is used, it's because we have an insular view of OUR American popularity.Team USA stays away from the Village because of security issues. Given the worldwide popularity of guys like Kobe and LeBron, it would be a nightmare for them to get any privacy. I don't like it either but its reality.
