This forum should be used with helpful comments to help other people decide if it worth spending the money or not. I don't see where this comment helps. What makes it a piece of ?
Ok I have read this forum and a few others before I would spend the money on a magic jack. After reading it, post like deans where he is complaining and post his conversation with the online help desk. Along with some of the good comments others have made, he made me decide to buy one.
Dean is obviously one of those people that cannot be pleased no matter what and his post in my opinion made him look like an idiot.
Anyway, I bought one off of the magic jack website. To answer the complaints of a few post I seen. I believe these people didn't read everything in the process. I did get a conformation page at the end which I printed out, I also received a conformation e-mail. It gives you a choice of them taking payment out of your card right away and you can get a refund in 30 days if your not happy or you can choose for them to not charge your card for 30 days. I chose not to be charged, which it then tells you that you may see a pending charge on your statement. It is in pending not already charged. I ordered it last tuesday, I have not been charged yet. I also chose to have just regular mail, no rush order. I got an email on thursday saying it was mailed with a tracking number. I received it on friday, just 4 days after ordering it.
Now the test of the magic jack! I plugged it in to my computer and got a message that it couldn't get online. It opened up a website and I had to download an upgrade. After that it was working. I brought a phone in to work this morning and have been making calls all day testing it. IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! I set up the voice mail with no problems. I have to say I think it is worth every penny.
I have a girl friend in Australia until Feb, she is mad because I am to cheap to call her and pay the international fees. Guess what, I bought the magic jack to send to her so we can talk for free. I tested it and I am satisfied. I will be mailing it to her and I will be one happy tightwad that is saving a ton of money. I can't ask for anything better
I recommend the magic jack to everyone. I am going to get rid of my home phone and get a magic jack for myself.![]()
I got my MJ very quickly in the mail, but I moved and was without internet for 3 weeks, so I am just now testing it out.So far it has excellent audio quality on the few calls I have made. I haven't had to contact customer service yet and that scares the out of me from the stories I have heard in this thread. After I test my MJ a little more I will report back again with a more thorough assessment of this product
o, I am from The Internet. I am here to save your forum from the google monster and the people paid by Magic Jack to tout their phone. No, as a poster said earlier, it does not wipe your ass for you.

Regardless of whether the accusations of 'spammers' or other 'shills' boosting the Magic Jack image (as some herein claim regarding glowing endorsements) are true or not, everyone should check out the Better Business Bureau read on this company and product.

I was on with a 'chat' representative for an hour just trying to cancel an order and was getting one circular-reasoning statement after another by the rep...so I asked for a supervisor. Almost the same experience. All I got was 'we don't find your order in our system' (and yes, enough time had elapsed) which makes me suspect this is a delaying tactic to get past the three days cancellation period (federal law) and be able to ship it in hopes you'll like it.
I can just imagine how much fun trying to return the item AND not have it show up on your credit card at the end of the 'trial period' would be.
Do yourself a favor...do what I should have done before I bought the (@#?!*) thing...and check out the BBB Report with the link above.
Caveat Emptor
I got mine. Sadly, It does not work. Why ?
There is no where it tells you , it does not work with satellite internet !
Bumming out in the country !
I was interested in purchasing this product. I saw it on an infomercial last night on SCI FI channel and talked to my husband about it. I did some research on it like I normally do things I want (so he actually believes me) and I go to the Better Business Bureau...its not pretty what they say about the company..They rated it an F..the worst rating you can get..
Here is the link....http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/B...anyID=92003333
If you google Magic Jack there are a few other sites that are great for researching products like..www.ripoff.com.
read this before you decide to purchase it..and remember to always research something especially if it sounds too good to be true...especially now when money is tight and the economy poor...thats the best time they try and take advantage of us....
Good Luck..
Just an FYI - I just cancelled my Magic Jack service. This was possibly the worst Voip service I have ever tried to use. I had NO calls that both parties could hear or understand the other! When you GO cheap, you GET cheap.
Here is my latest MJ update, I have been using it for about 2 months now. It is ok, but that is about it. When it works it works very well.It is kind of like a cell phone in the fact that it sometimes gets poor connections and I have to redial. Sometimes when I make a call it will return to the dialtone. The voice quality is usually great when I get a good connection. I am planning on keeping it though, just due to the low cost, with the hopes that the service will improve with age and maturity. You get what you pay for, by no means is it as good as a land line to me on a daily basis. I am switching to a much faster cable internet soon, so I hope that improves the service for me, so maybe I will give another update after I have had the faster internet for a time and been able to give it a more fair test then. If I had to give an overall grade to the service then I would rank it as a B-, take it for what its worth. As I said, it works well when it works, which is most of the time, it is just a nuisance at times having to redial
I have it. I dont use it as I dont really call anyone but my mother's sister insisted us on having one. Im curious if it works overseas as well.
I feel like an idiot. I just ordered the magic jack and THEN decided to research it. After reading this, I want to cancel my order. How do I get to the chat rep that you spoke about? What about just changing my debit card number so they can't charge it? thanks.
I dont know why most of you are bashing this product . I am still using it --- 9 months now and have had very limited problems . the problems that have occurded were very easy to fix , with a little research in there help files.
and the money that you are saving in long distance and phoen service is well worth a little inconvienance .
you 'said' the right thing...."most of you ...". That's because it doesn't work for most of us. I even went to the trouble of setting a new deicated laptop (dual core) for this. Only MJ software running and it still give me problems.
If I try to dial some numbers it rings once and then I get the dial tone. If I call MJ number at home It goes straight into the mailbox. I keep on uprading the software, Unplugging/re-plugging the device, restarting the PC etc. Same thing...works for a bit and then it stops.
Their support is a joke. They keep on telling me how their 'engineers' keep on upgrading the system. They have NO SOLUTIONS besides upgrade the software and resetting the devices (MJ and Laptop). Last I talked to them I said I'm DONE upgading. I told them I probably have a bad device and want it replaced......they said NO...the device is fine. That means they KNOW of other problems with their system.
RIDICULOUS. I think I'm going to call my lawyer soon. See if I can bankrupt this joke of a company.![]()
Well when I first plugged the thing in I was so excited I called everyone in the state of Florida, but since I'm in Israel it was three in the morning there and no one answered. However as soon as I started getting calls back I thought this is great, and everyone said I sound like I was calling from around the corner ( what ever that means). And then it happened. 4 days into the service the thing starts dropping call and the quality of the voice goes down the drain. Anyway about 1 out of every 7 calls goes well, which is okay I guess for 20 bucks a year, but it would have been nice if it worked like they claim. Just for the record I haven't bothered with the tech support. I've read some real horror stories.
I'd really like to know what all you Magic Jack people think of the Spurs?
