What the happens in this scenario?

Texas, Ttech and ou all finish with one loss in the Big XII South.

UT beats ou, tech beats UT and then ou beats tech. Is there a formula for this scenario? How do you decide who represents the Big XII South in the le game? Thanks for any info/responses.

Divisional Champion: The (eligible) team with the best winning-percentage of all divisional members in its eight conference games is declared the divisional champion and representative to the Dr Pepper Big 12 Conference Football Championship Game. A team ineligible under NCAA or Big 12 rules for postseason (bowl) compe ion shall not compete in the Championship Game.

Divisional Tiebreakers: The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative


If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.


The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
The records of the three teams will be compared within their division
The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of fi nish (4, 5 and 6)
The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents;
The highest ranked team in the fi rst Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative
The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative
The representative will be chosen by draw.

Trying to apply these to the scenario posited by ballcox --

1. The records of the three teams will be compared against each other

That would be UT 1-1, TT 1-1, OU 1-1, right?

The records of the three teams will be compared within their division

In that instance, each would be 4-1 in the division.

The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of fi nish (4, 5 and 6)

In that instance, each of the teams would be 3-0 against those teams.

The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents

The common opponents for all 3 teams this season would be OSU, Baylor, A&M, and Kansas. Each would be 4-0 against those opponents under this scenario.

The highest ranked team in the fi rst Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative

Texas loses to Tech, they'll fall behind Tech in the BCS Standings. If Tech then loses to OU, OU will certainly jump ahead of Tech. It would all depend, I think, upon whether UT fell behind OU after losing to Tech or whether UT stayed ahead of OU.

The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative

Assuming it got this far, I'm presuming that would make Texas the winner. If "exempted games" means games against FCS teams (IAA schools), then Texas would be 11-1 (.916) in this category, OU (which played IAA Chattanooga) would be 10-1 (.909), and Tech (which played IAA E. Washington and UMass) would be 9-1 (.900).

If that is the scenario, assuming not one of them kills or embarasses the other, uo goes because they will have lost the longest ago and the polls always favor those who lose early regardless of who they lost to (see SC last few years as an example). uo would be higher in the BCS therefore get the B12S.

Now the even more interesting arguement would be who gets the BCS at large bid? Ut will have lost further in the past and thus be higher regarded in the polls plus would have played a better (much much) better schedule than ttek, but ttek would have beaten UT. How do you pick that one?

It's confusing the out of me. And I definitely think osu could be included in that mix.

We beat ou earlier in the season, lose to tech and then osu beats tech, again 3 teams with one loss apiece. Could get very interesting in the next 3 weeks.

UT will still be ranked ahead of OSU if they lose this week to ttek; therefore I would assume UT will be ranked higher than them even if OSU wins out and UT's only loss is this weekend.

You don't need to go very far in the past for that situation, it happened last year when Kansas lost to Mizzou, but Mizzou lost to OU in the Big XII championship game, and Kansas got the Orange Bowl bid.

That's actually slightly different. Mizzou beat KU and won the B12N but got an extra loss which dropped them out of BCS contention. Sucks, yes, but it is what it is.
