Nowitzki scored 36 points, but had only one in the fourth quarter—on Artest’s technical. Howard had 28 points and 11 rebounds, and Jason Kidd had seven points, seven rebounds and 12 assists.

    Fixed.

It's too bad that Dirk looks so unguardable for most of the game and then shrinks away in crunch time. He should adopt the nickname "Dirk-stopper".

dirk scores one pint in 4 again n a tech free throw
I'm trying to make sense of this... so Dirk shot four technical free throws and drank a pink during one of them?

It's kind of hard for him to get any offense going when Stack thinks he is the designated clutch shooter on the team.

Trying to shoot a fadeaway off one leg over Yao with a good 15 seconds left on the shot clock isn't exactly smart basketball from Dirk either. I'd love to defend Dirk here but he the bed big time in the 4th quarter.

I know, I was trying to find a way around it.

Dirk had been having his way with Scola all night long. That changed when Adelman decided to put Chuck Hayes in for the entire 4th quarter. Hayes is one of those guys that's too strong to back down and too quick to face up against. Another one of those guys is Ron Artest. The beauty of the defensive strategy was that Hayes and Artest could switch between Howard and Dirk at any time and still shut either guy down, and the result was that the entire Mavericks team went 6-24 in the final period. The Mavs needed their supporting cast to step up, and they couldn't -- especially Stackhouse.

The Mavs just need a little more quality depth and they will be the same team we love to hate.
