Bring back the XFL and He Hate Me.
If you haven't heard about the UFL, it's a new football league planning on kicking off next fall and playing Thursday and Friday nights. They have been regularly speaking to the NFLPA and player's agents over this time as well.
Tomorrow they will be releasing information and officially launching their website, www.ufl-football.com.
The best and most comprehensive coverage will happen at UFL Access, www.uflaccess.com with an advanced release time and plenty of exclusive coverage.
Check it out if you are interested in professional football beyond the NFL.
When the XFL started and He Hate Me became famous, my supervisor decorated my cubicle in He Hate Me stuff.
The director seen this and we had to go through mediation. It was hard to explain to a bunch of old farts that He Hate Me was an actual person and my supervisor was clowning around.
Mark Cuban has something to do with this new league. Obviously it will fail.
Cuban was going to be an owner, rumored of a team in either LA or LV, but has backed out, probably due to the immensity of his attempt at purchasing the Cubs and the legal issues of the insider trading charge.
It was Cuban's blog entry that first brought this league into the public eye in a large scale, however, and he was very positive of its plan.
I went to the potential markets page and there are no Texas cities. Matter of fact, the closest one would be in Monterrey, south of the border. How do you have a football league with no presence anywhere in this state, but are touting Hartford, Orlando, and Salt Lake?
edit: from their website...
Three?
That's a mistake. They are starting with 6 teams. Several errors have been found on their website and they are getting them fixed as we speak.
The UFL wants San Antonio in the league, but no owner stepped forward, and really, there's not many options here. San Antonio is at the top of their priority list for expansion.
for the love of god please tell me Jerry Jones does not have a team??
He Hate Me is not playing for the AAFL because the AAFL is effectively dead. They bailed at the last minute after signing players. It's not likely to ever come back.
And who knows what the heck Jerry Jones does.
I'm just letting people know in case they are interested like me. I'm kind of tired of the NFL for a variety of reasons and excited of the prospect of a new league that several billionaires have said have a good business plan.
It won't succeed. Any league that tries to compete with the major sports leagues will fail. There is no history and the fan base for those sports are already deeply entrenched in the leagues.
