I have to disagree with a lot of these.

    Marvin Gaye
    Luthor Vandross
    John Lennon
    Elvis Presley
    Freddy Mercury

These guys were well past their creative peaks when they died. I'm not saying they were old, or wouldn't have made some good music after their deaths, but the likelihood that they would be putting out classic material in their 50's and 60's is pretty slim.

On the other hand, I'd certainly like to hear what a song written by an elderly John Lennon might have sounded like.

I would add Nick Drake to the ones already mentioned.

I'd also like to add Brian Wilson's sanity.

Sorry that was the native Corpus Christian in me speaking.

I would say Bradley but Slightly Stoopid has their same sound and does it better IMO. So I don't really miss Sublime much at all. Plus, Long Beach Short Bus and Long Beach All Stars are really kick ass so it may have been good that he died when he did.

Cliff and Randy Rhoads defenitely went too soon. Metallica hasn't had a decent bassist since he died.

I don't know I see them as all having significant contributions. Elvis and Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross were still good singers even though they were not tops in record sales. I can easily envision John Lennon doing the Sting/Bono activism thing and again maybe not selling lots of records, but using his music in a very creative way to benefit his cause. Same for Freddie Mercury. He probably would have done the Elton John thing and gone the way of Broadway musicals/rock opera. Just because they would not produce huge record sales doesn't mean they couldn't maintain a high level of musical productivity.

Delta Blues legend Robert Johnson. He lived long enough to influence Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf and countless others who gave birth to R&B and rock 'n roll. There's only about 30 or so songs of his recorded. I would love to hear more.

Chicago Blues legend Magic Sam. Died way too soon.
