Final: Spurs 109, Thunder 104
By Joe Alexander
The Spurs dominated the first 18 minutes of the game and then hung on for dear life at the end of a 109-104 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder never led in the second half, but they nearly erased a 26-point Spurs lead and were within three points twice in the final two minutes of the game and two points in the final 30 seconds.
Tony Parker scored six points in the final 1:49 of the game. Manu Ginobili missed a pair of free throws with 34 seconds left, but then completed a three-point play for the final points of the game.
FOURTH QUARTER
The Thunder were within three points with a minute left. Tony Parker has the Spurs' last two baskets and they lead 104-99 with 54 seconds left.
Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner have combined for the Spurs' last 10 points. The Spurs lead 95-85.
The Thunder got a three-point play from Kevin Durant and a 3-pointer from Earl Watson. The Spurs are hanging on to a 91-85 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
The Thunder made a 6-0 spurt early in the fourth quarter. The Spurs' lead has dwindled to 85-75 with 10 minutes left in the game.
George Hill, Roger Mason Jr., Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowen and Kurt Thomas are on the court to start the fourth quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Roger Mason Jr. and Matt Bonner have at least 13 points each and the Spurs take an 83-69 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Thunder whittled what had been a 26-point Spurs lead down to 11. Tony Parker has six points in the third quarter and 14 for the game. His last basket put the Spurs in front 78-65.
The Spurs still have a solid lead at 72-57. But the teams are basically trading baskets. The Thunder have actually outscored the Spurs 38-33 since the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
Roger Mason Jr. hit the Spurs' eighth 3-pointer of the game with time running out in the second quarter and the Spurs took a 62-44 halftime lead.
The Spurs led by as many as 26 points in the second quarter. The Thunder closed late in the half with a 12-1 run.
The Thunder are trying to work themselves back into the game. They are on a 7-0 run. The Spurs lead 58-39 with two minutes left in the half.
The Spurs aren't backing off. They're on a 13-5 run and lead 52-26 after a tip-in by Michael Finley.
Kurt Thomas is getting in on the act on offense. He has six points including a basket and a pair of free throws early in the second quarter. The Spurs lead 45-23.
FIRST QUARTER
Mason had 11 points and the Spurs were an electrifying 7 of 10 from 3-point range as they shot their way to a 39-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mason nailed his third 3-pointer late in the first quarter as the Spurs rolled to a 28-12 lead.
Can you imagine Tim Duncan doing a T.O. routine because Matt Bonner is getting the ball too much? In all seriousness, Bonner had eight points in the first eight minutes of the game as the Spurs took a 21-10 lead.
Four of the Spurs' first five baskets were 3-pointers, two by Bonner and one each by Finley and Mason. The Spurs lead 14-8.
OKC is better than their record. They somehow just find a way to lose. Their talent is unbelievable.
Wednesday's NOH game is the most important game of the season to date.
OKC didn't foul to extend the game?????????????????/
Anyone have the # of layups TP missed?
The Spurs/Mavs double OT game just started on NBA TV. Looks like the 'Top 10 games of the week'.
And they shouldn't be. What other team has blown a 26 point lead? I cant really think of any other team that has loss that big a lead. And to make it even more worse to the ing Thunder?
I hope Pop mouth rapes the whole Spurs crew for ing up this badly.
More like the game of the season.
FYI - Manu just said the same thing basically. A step-backwards as far as how we played the last 5 games.
I know a team who blew a 24 point lead in June.
No they are not. Only two good players are Durant and Green. The rest of taht team blows badly.
And we did too in May...![]()
Lakers right? But to what team? No one loses a 26 point lead to the worse of the worse team possible imaginable.
Westbrook is a good player, espiacially when he starts the game. He was just drafted too high. They should have drafted a better prospect and trade down for Westbrook.
To the Celtic's bench. I believe. Not their starters. Doc pulled them out of the game.
ugly win but a win is a win. spurs need to refocus with they play back to back against NO and the magic.
four. very unusual for him. i noticed that too in the last few games, which could mean he's not yet at 100 %. anyway, he still finds a way to score at a good %. tonight he was at 50 %.
Thunder have played better under the new coach, even though they're still very bad.
Its a classic case of just taking the foot off the pedal its nothing to worry about, its a good lesson to learn if you dont finish things off your gonna pay for it.
You'd think the Spurs would have learned this by now.
How many many many other times have they blown such leads and lose?
Spurs will most likely learn nothing of this game as they have done with those other games they have lost when leading by more then 20 points.
jeez... during halftime I decided to go out to eat with my wife, and just came back...
only won by 5 points, and let OKC score 104![]()
Dunno on this one. We gave up more dunks than the last 10 games, maybe more.
