Not even controversial.
It's not like he's just saying it out of the blue just to spite the Mets and their fans. It's not like Sean Avery with his "sloppy seconds" comment initiating the topic and calling attention to himself for no reason. If he was doing an interview, say with Jim Rome, and Rome didn't bring up the Mets and he made the comment off-topic saying something like, "oh yeah, I'm not a choke artist like the Mets," then there might be something newsworthy about the comment. But, that doesn't appear to be the case. He was on a New York radio station and was asked a question about the topic. I think it's fine what he said.
And, most Mets fans and even Mets players agree with him anyway.
