    Final: Spurs 91, Suns 90
    By Joe Alexander

Roger Mason Jr. made his only basket of the second half when hit hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Spurs a 91-90 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Tony Parker drove into the lane and passed the ball out to Mason to set up the winning shot.

Mason had been on the bench late in the game. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich put Mason in at the end of a timeout with 4.3 seconds left. The Spurs had gone more than three minutes without scoring before Mason's 3-pointer.

The Spurs trailed most of the game, but held the Suns to 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Parker led the Spurs with 27 points and eight assists. Tim Duncan had 25 points and 17 rebounds. Michael Finley had 12 points and Manu Ginobili had 11.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Shaquille O'Neal had 23 points and 12 rebounds and made 9 of 16 free throws.

    FOURTH QUARTER

Grant Hill scored with 4.3 seconds left, after a Suns timeout, to put Phoenix in front.

Tony Parker has the Spurs' last seven points. He was hit with a technical with 1:01 left. It's tied 88-88 with 24 seconds left.

Tony Parker scored back-to-back baskets on a break and a jumper. The Spurs have their biggest lead at 88-84.

Michael Finley chipped in a couple of baskets and it's tied 83-83 with five minutes left in the game.

The Spurs are playing solid defense to open the fourth quarter and Manu Ginobili has two quick baskets. The Suns lead 79-77 with less than nine minutes left.

    THIRD QUARTER

The Suns finished a fast-paced third quarter with a 76-71 lead. The Spurs outscored the Suns 32-29 in the period.

Tim Duncan scored 12 points in the quarter. The Spurs fouled Shaquille O'Neal three times at the end of the quarter - he responded by hitting 5 of 6 free throws.

The Suns forged back in front and lead 65-62 late in the third quarter. The Spurs got 3-pointers from Tony Parker and Michael Finley.

A Tim Duncan basket put the Spurs in front 54-52 for their first lead of the game.

Tim Duncan has six points in the first five minutes of the second half. The Spurs tied it 52-52 and are back even for the first time since it was 0-0.

    SECOND QUARTER

Phoenix big men Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal combined for 26 points to carry the Suns to a 45-39 halftime lead. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker had 11 points each for the Spurs, who never led in the first half.

The Spurs hadn't hit a 3-pointer until Matt Bonner made one with less than three minutes left in the first half. That was part of an 8-0 Spurs run that cut the lead to 41-39.

Shaquille O'Neal may be slowing down, but he can still be a force in spurts. He scored the last three baskets and the Suns' lead is 37-29.

The Spurs outscored the Suns 9-2 to start the second quarter and cut the lead to 29-27. Tim Duncan is up to 11 points.

    FIRST QUARTER

The Suns scored the first 11 points of the game and the Spurs shot 31 percent the first quarter as the Suns finished the period with a 27-18 lead.

The Spurs are slowly starting to recover from a rough start that saw they trail by as many as 13 points. Manu Ginobili's first basket cut the Suns' lead to 23-16.

Midway through the first quarter, the Suns' Amare Stoudemire had 10 points and the Spurs had six. The Suns led 17-6.

The Suns made their first four shots, including two by Amare Stoudemire, and lead 9-0. Timeout Spurs.

After one of the most obviously one-sided officiating I have seen in a long, long time while watching a regular season game....

Mason makes my Christmas super Merry.

WHAT A GAME! Spurs beat the Suns + 3 to rip their hearts out of their chest again. The announcers sounded SO sad afterwards. Brilliant freaking game. If we executed at ALL on offense it would not have been close... or if we didn't start at 30% for the game.

What a win. Go home, Phoenix, you aren't even good enough to take us with the refs in your back pocket. Hope to see you in the playoffs again.

Damn, what a clutch shot. He even had to rush it a little bit because time was winding down. Plus he hadn't been in the game in forever.

Too bad you can't have a gif of Mason making that three over and over.

Props to the always classy Suns fan flipping off Mason and the Spurs by the sideline.

I agree.....I missed the first half, cause I got the times mixed up and I was busy with family anyway.....but the 2nd half was horribly officiated. I couldn't believe the fouls they were calling on SA and then the ones they weren't calling on PHX. BTW, I hope Pop will leave hack a shaq in the past after this game. The strategy worked in the playoffs, but so far in 2 games this year, it really hasn't worked.

I like angry Duncan. When he gets mad, nobody outrebounds him. He needs to get Hulk out more often. He could be a 20/20 player.

This was a very good win...to beat a quality opponent on the road is very important.

It was an entertaining game by both teams.....good intensity and came down to the wire. What more can you ask for as a basketball fan.

    GO SPURS GO

The Hack-a-shaq did work. The point isnt to hope Shaq misses his FT's, its to disrupt the other Suns players offense. Take them out of the equation for a while and their offense stagnates.

Just look at the point differential in the 4th quarter.

    spurs 20, suns 14
