Lost....What is up with the "Others"?

All in all, I thought it was a great first episode. There are still alot of questions to be answered, but I heard the creators say in the pre-episode that answers would start to come with more regularity. That pretty much jives with the fact that they have only this season and the next to wrap things up....not alot of time for a show this complex.

Personally, I'm hoping they don't spend the ENTIRE season trying to locate the island and get the people back on it...maybe just half the season.

But I guess only time will tell.

They seem to be framing a few characters as "unique" or special...

By my count I've heard that characteristic given to:

Locke (miraculously walking)
Desmond (Farraday told him)
Hurley (saw cabin/sees ghosts)
Michael

And the obvious one is Jack, though no one says he's unique or special it's clear that he has a profound effect on what goes on with the island.

Interesting. I never remember Michael being "special". The island only interacted with him because of the atonement angle for having killed Libby and Anna Lucia, and it needing a mole to sabotage the freighter mission. Walt was the special one in that family. John even mentioned it early on in season one.

Of all the islanders, Jack is the LEAST "special" of the major characters. Other than seeing his father very early on, he never interacts with the island or really believes any of the people that do, or what they say. He's the rational component, with Locke being the irrational.

Locke and Hurley appear to have the strongest connection with the island. Both of them have seen numerous ghost manifestations of the island. I also think that it's not a coincidence that they are both pretty ed in the head. I'll be interested in seeing if John has as strong a connection to the island while back in the real world as Hurley has.

I think Ben sicked the lawyers on Kate because he knew she'd run. It would make her more likely to go back to the island.

As for why everyone has to go back...still trying to figure tha tone out.

don't forget that the Asian 'mercenary' can also see ghosts, although there is no apparent purpose yet for him to be able to do so.

Yeah I noticed that the "indigenous" people didn't move....and my theory is that they didn't move w/ the island b/c they're already dead.

I thought I remember reading at one point that the writers/producers said that they were not dead. I could be wrong about that....

The producers said on an interview that they will all reunite by the mid season. My guess that will be around ep 7 or 8 since this season is only like 15 or 16 episodes long.

I initially viewed the time-travel aspect as a "jumping the shark" moment for the series but it is actually great. It gives you loads of info on what is going on just by knowing how diff chars react depending which time they are in.

Agreed. This episode was very satisfying.

The producers are really patching things up now. Beginning to see things alot clearer now. I hope they keep doing this throughtout the season. No more damn questions or mysteries.

The Widmore reveal knocked me out of my seat. I theorized that it was Charlotte's father, but obviously I was wrong.

Usually I gag when fictional characters name their children after another character that died, but I thought Desmond naming his son Charlie was very appropriate, a nice tribute to the character.

The time travel stuff is really mind ing me. It is making sense though and it is slowly starting to pick up. Next weeks episode already looks intriguing. This is my first time following the show on a week to week basis. Over this past summer I watched all 4 seasons. Im hooked to this show and I expect to keep getting better.

Ben is also my favorite character. I love how he is so great at manipulating people. I cant wait to see how things evolve with him getting everyone to come back to the Island.
