Yeah thats what I thought as well, those four, money, and Mahinmi a young athletic big with promise who Detroit might like, and money.

He then said something stupid like "the Spurs are trying to get Detroit to eat some of the salary, wich we know cant happen.

Rasheed for Finley, Bowen, Oberto and Mahinmi doesn't quite work out CBA wise.

1) Rasheed for Finley, Bowen, Oberto, and Udoka does.

2) Rasheed for Finley, Bowen, OBerto, and Hill does.

3) Rasheed for Finley, Bowen, OBerto, and Vaughn does.

The big question in my mind is would Detroit buyout Bowen? If he comes back, I definetly do 1) & 3) even assuming something like splitter's rights are included...

As for why Det does this, currently they are slightly above Lux tax at a payroll of $71,795,804. This would save them enough salary that they would be recieving a lux tax payout, rather than paying in (~ 5 million net gain, counting them paying ~2 million in tax, and a payout of ~ 3 million).

So then if Fab + Fin = 5M short, we can sign Horry for 4M and throw in Ian and have salary matched deal.

Yes, but like Timvp just pointed out that makes Detroit have to start cutting a bunch of people to clear room for all those guys. Something they probably won't want to do.

The tough part is that Detroit can't take back more than one extra player. So that narrows the possible trade to . . .

Bowen, Fin, Fab and Horry for Wallace, Acker and Sharpe.

The everyone gets waived but Wallace. Bowen, Fin and Fab eventually return. Pistons can take back Acker and Sharpe if they want them. Horry can retire with more money.

That said, for the Pistons to go through all that trouble, they'd have to be getting something pretty good. A couple of picks? Splitter? Mahinmi?

While it would be great to get Wallace, I hope we don't give up too much, considering the luxury tax benefit for Detroit is at least a partial incentive. I really would hate to lose any of our young prospects (Splitter, Mahinmi, or Hill). We better not lose more than one of them (if that) for a 5 month rental of Wallace.
