it's the utsa people that keep starting thread after thread, and that are calling people's work and trying to get them fired

also i hve no problem with the school just sick of most utsa people on here
I understand that, and that's ed up right there. BUT, it never would have gotten there if the anti-UTSA assholes hadn't gone overboard in their ing. Escalation is always the fault of both parties.

own a multi million dollar company (yet you arent really rich......you just have disposable income whatevr the that means)
I would assume "multi million dollar corporation" is discussing gross revenue, or general capital, not profits. Many "multi-million dollar corporations" lose money (see current financial crises full of multi-BILLION dollar corporations losing money).

I'd say TLF considers himself mid to upper middle class, or possibly lower echelon upper class (from the little I've seen him write about himself). Rich is very subjective though.

    • The Islanders lead the series, 7-2, but UTSA won the last meeting in San Antonio, 65-51, on March 1, 2008
    • UTSA is 9-2 at the Convocation Center this season
    • The Roadrunners have won four of their last six and 12 of their last 16 games
    • This will be UTSA’s eighth television appearance of the season (4-3 record)
    • UTSA is 9-0 when holding opponents to under 70 points and 13-2 when limiting its opponents to below 50-percent shooting from the field
    • With 15 victories, the Roadrunners have surpassed last season’s win total of 13
    • UTSA established a school record with nine non-conference wins this season
    • The Roadrunners have drained six or more 3-pointers in 20 games and they lead the SLC and rank eighth in the NCAA in threes per game (9.0)
    • UTSA has made at least one 3-pointer in all 82 games under third-year head coach Brooks Thompson, including five or more treys 56 times

    • UTSA leads the league and ranks ninth nationally in turnover margin (+4.9)
    • Sop re guard Devin Gibson leads the NCAA in steals per game (3.5)

UTSA/Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Series History: The Islanders lead the all-time series, 7-2, and won the first meeting this season, 80-66, on Jan. 24 in Corpus Christi. UTSA won the first-ever matchup, 95-80, on Nov. 27, 1999, and the last meeting in San Antonio, 65-51, on March 1, 2008, both at the Convocation Center. The series is tied at 2-2 in the Bird Cage.

Last Meeting: Senior Travis Gabbidon topped 20 points for the third consecutive game with a game-high 25, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi used balanced scoring in an 80-66 victory over UTSA on Saturday afternoon at Dugan Wellness Center. The game was played at the Islanders’ new on-campus recreational sports facility due to the American Bank Center being booked with a circus all weekend. UTSA shot just 33.3 percent (23-for-69) from the floor, including 5-of-29 (17.2 percent) from downtown, and was outrebounded 45-30. Gabbidon added nine rebounds in nearly posting his third consecutive double-double, and the Phoenix native has tallied 71 points in the last three games.(23.7 pg). Sop re Devin Gibson pitched in with eight points and six thefts. Justin Reynolds led the Islanders with 15 points, while Filip Toncinic, Kevin Palmer and Shamar Coombs added 13 apiece. AMCC shot 57.4 percent (31-for-54) from the field and held a 49-31 advantage in the paint.

Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi: The Islanders fell to 14-11 overall and 8-2 in the league with a 75-73 home loss to Sam Houston State on Saturday. Junior transfer Kevin Palmer leads the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game, while sop re Demond Watt is the top rebounder (6.2 rpg). Head coach Perry Clark is 23-31 in his second season at the helm.

Last Time Out: Senior Travis Gabbidon led three Roadrunners in double figures with 18 points, but Marquez Haynes poured in a game-high 27, including the game-winning basket with 4.4 seconds to play, to lead UT Arlington to an 84-82 victory over UTSA last Saturday at Texas Hall. Trailing, 82-80, with the shot clock turned off, Gabbidon was fouled on a shot attempt and made both free throws to knot the score with 10 seconds remaining. Ro’ger Guignard took the inbound pass and found Haynes on the right wing and the Irving native drained a 17-foot jumper with 4.4 ticks left to give the Mavericks a two-point lead. Sop re Devin Gibson, who scored 10 in his first game back since Jan. 24, dribbled the length of the floor but his off-balance desperation shot from near the 3-point line rimmed out as time expired. Gabbidon was 9-for-13 from the free throw line in leading UTSA in scoring for the 11th time this season and he added a team-high seven rebounds and three steals. Junior Morris Smith IV drained four 3-pointers en route to 16 points, his sixth straight game in double figures. Gibson was 4-of-6 from the floor and added six boards and four assists, while junior Omar Johnson dropped in nine points, six rebounds, five dimes and a pair of thefts.

Home Court Advantage: UTSA totes an all-time record of 250-112 (.691 winning percentage) in the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners are 9-2 at home this season, with the only two losses in double overtime by a combined six points, and have won 11 of their past 15 at the facility dating back to last February.

Non-Conference Success: UTSA picked up its ninth non-conference victory of the regular season on Jan. 21 against Texas-Pan American, breaking the school record of eight set in 1990-91. The Roadrunners have recorded six wins against Division I teams — Rice, UMKC, Georgia State, SMU, Colgate, Texas-Pan American — which is the most out of league play since the 1989-90 team also won six. The 1990-91 squad won a school-record eight. Three of this year’s non-conference DI victories came on the road, the most since UTSA joined a conference (Trans America Athletic) in 1986-87.

A Good Start: At 10-5, UTSA registered its best 15-game start since the 2001-02 team also began with a 10-5 mark. Five teams have started 10-5, which rank second only to 11-4 starts in 1989-90 and 1990-91. Now with 15 victories, UTSA already has surpassed last season’s win total of 13 and still has seven regular season contests remaining on the schedule. Additionally, with a 6-3 start to conference play, the Roadrunners are off to their best nine-game start since the 2004-05 team began 7-2, which also is the last team to go 7-3 through the first 10 league games and record 15 or more wins (15-13).

Let’s Go Streaking: UTSA’s seven-game winning streak that began with a 76-72 win at UMKC on Dec. 22 and continued through a 62-55 victory at Nicholls on Jan. 14 is tied with Sam Houston State’s streak from Jan. 17-Feb. 7 for the longest in the Southland Conference this season. It also is the best at UTSA since the 2003-04 squad also won seven straight from Feb. 25-March 12. The Roadrunners now have won 11 of their last 14 contests, with two of those losses by a combined six points in double overtime (Jan. 17 vs. UT Arlington, Feb. 4 vs. Sam Houston State).

Senior Snags Another SLC Honor: Senior Travis Gabbidon was named Southland Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 26, his second honor in four weeks. The Phoenix, Ariz., native averaged 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and four steals and shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line in games against Texas-Pan American and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Gabbidon also collected the weekly award on Jan. 5 after posting 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories against SMU and Colgate.

Record-Setting Night: UTSA set six school records in the 136-68 victory against East Central on Nov. 22, as the Roadrunners improved to 24-4 all-time and 3-0 under third-year head coach Brooks Thompson in home openers. Following is a list of the broken records:

    Points: 136 [132, vs. Texas State (11/24/90)]
Winning Margin: 68 [58, vs. Georgia State (2/10/90)]
Field Goal Attempts: 97 [91, vs. Georgia State (1/22/87)]
    Rebounds: 65 [64, vs. Jarvis Christian (11/29/86)]
    3-Pointers: 17 [17, vs. Stephen F. Austin (1/18/97)]
3-Point Field Goal Attempts: 43 [37. vs. Northwestern State (1/19/08)]

Additionally, UTSA set Southland Conference season highs for points, margin of victory, field goals (51), field goal attempts, 3-point field goals, 3-point field goal attempts and rebounds in that contest.

Keys To Success: UTSA has discovered several keys to success this season. The Roadrunners are 13-2 when holding their opponents to under 50-percent shooting from the floor (4-0 under 40 percent), as opposed to a 2-6 record when foes shoot above 50 percent. UTSA also is 10-1 when it outrebounds opponents, with the only loss a 74-72 decision at Texas-Pan American in a game that the Roadrunners held a slim 29-28 advantage on the glass. UTSA also is 12-2 when leading at the half and a perfect 9-0 when holding opponents to under 70 points.

Creating Havoc: The Roadrunners are forcing their opponents into an average of 19.6 turnovers per game this season. Nine opponents have committed 20 or more, led by a season-high 34 from East Central on Nov. 22. A large reason for UTSA’s success in creating opponent miscues is the fact that the team is coming up with a league-best 10.2 steals per contest (4th/NCAA). Led by 2007-08 NCAA steals champion Devin Gibson, a sop re who leads the nation with 3.5 thefts per game, all 13 Roadrunners have teamed up to record 234 steals this year. That number includes 131 in 10 home games (11.9 spg), highlighted by a Brooks Thompson era best of 20 against East Central.

Taking Care Of The Rock: UTSA has been effective in taking care of the basketball this season. The Roadrunners are averaging 14.7 turnovers per game and boast the top turnover margin (+4.9) in the Southland Conference (9th/NCAA). UTSA, which boasts a 14-5 record when forcing more turnovers than it commits, has topped 20 turnovers in a game just three times this season but still forced more by two of those opponents in victories against Texas Wesleyan and Texas-Pan American. The season-low of seven came in the 76-72 win at UMKC on Dec. 22 and the Roadrunners committed just eight in the 88-79 victory over Central Arkansas on Feb. 11.

Hitting The Trifecta: The Roadrunners have been productive from beyond the 3-point line this season. Even with the arc moved one foot further from the basket, UTSA has shown it still can fill it up from downtown. Led by senior Joey Shank (51) and juniors Morris Smith IV (48) and Omar Johnson (43), the Roadrunners have drained 208 threes for a conference-leading 9.0 per-game average (8th/NCAA), as 10 different Roadrunners have contributed from behind the arc this season. UTSA, which surpassed last season’s total of 191 treys in the Central Arkansas win, has made at least one 3-pointer in all 82 games under third-year head coach Brooks Thompson, including five or more 57 times and six or more in 20 games this season. UTSA had made at least one three in 442 consecutive contests dating back to Jan. 5, 1994 (vs. Texas).

Balanced Attack: Led by senior Travis Gabbidon (13.7), junior Omar Johnson (13.6) and sop re Devin Gibson (11.1), UTSA has displayed a balanced scoring attack this season. Six additional Roadrunners are averaging at least four points per contest: senior Joey Shank (8.7) and juniors Morris Smith IV (9.9), Josh Bonney (6.7), Demarco Stepter (6.1), Chris Allen (5.3) and Terry Fields (4.1).

Success At The Line: A pair of Roadrunners have broken the school record for free throw percentage in a game this season. Senior Travis Gabbidon drained 10-of-10 from the line in the Colgate victory on Jan. 2 to eclipse the previous standard (minimum of 10 attempts required) of 92 percent (12-13) set by Leon Watson against Texas College on Nov. 22, 1998. In the Central Arkansas win on Feb. 11, junior Omar Johnson matched Gabbidon’s effort with a 10-for-10 performance from the charity stripe to help the Roadrunners fire at a season-high 87.5-percent (21-24) clip. As a team, UTSA is shooting 68.2 percent (360-528) from the line, a considerable improvement over last season’s 65.8 percent (424-644) mark, and stands at 68.2 percent (161-236) in SLC games.

Double-Double Tracker: UTSA has registered 10 double-doubles this year, including a team-best four by senior Travis Gabbidon.

Demarco Stepter, East Central (Nov. 22): 12 points, 11 rebounds
Devin Gibson, Texas-Pan American (Dec. 18): 16 points, 10 assists
Demarco Stepter, UMKC (Dec. 22) : 15 points, 11 rebounds
Demarco Stepter, SMU (Dec. 29): 10 points, 10 rebounds
Josh Bonney, Nicholls (Jan. 14): 15 points, 13 rebounds
Richie Frohlich, UT Arlington (Jan. 17): 14 points, 10 rebounds
Travis Gabbidon, UT Arlington (Jan. 17): 23 points, 10 rebounds
Travis Gabbidon, UT Arlington (Jan. 24): 23 points, 12 rebounds
Travis Gabbidon, Texas State (Jan. 28): 18 points, 10 rebounds
Travis Gabbidon, Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 7): 11 points, 12 rebounds

Gibson Up For Cousy Award: Sop re Devin Gibson, the 2007-08 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, has been named a preseason nominee for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s top point guard. The Cy-Falls High product is one of three SLC players (Eric Bell, Stephen F. Austin; Kenny Dawkins, Lamar) and one of 46 nationally now on the watch list. In addition, Gibson also has been named preseason first-team all-conference and a CollegeHoops.net Preseason Mid-Major All-American. The 2007-08 NCAA steals leader (3.3 spg), he is averaging 11.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.7 steals (1st/NCAA) per game this season. Gibson missed five games from Jan. 28-Feb. 11 due to a back injury.

Moving On Up: Sop re Devin Gibson is making his way up a pair of UTSA career charts. The Houston native currently has 156 steals in 46 career games (3.4 spg), which is sixth on the school’s all-time chart and only four behind Keith Horne (160) for fifth place. No Roadrunner has recorded more thefts than Gibson in less than two full seasons. He also has tallied 595 points (12.9 ppg), ranking him 38th, is eighth in free throw percentage (.700) and stands ninth with 224 free throws. He also is on pace to appear on the school’s top-10 career list for assists (207, 10th=214) and the top 50 chart for rebounds (180, 50th=193).

Welcome Back: Senior Travis Gabbidon and junior Omar Johnson both were plagued with injuries last season, but have emerged as two of the team’s top scorers this year. Gabbidon, a Phoenix native and JUCO All-American at College of Southern Idaho, was UTSA’s leading scorer (13.9) and rebounder (5.8) until he went down with a season-ending injury at Lamar on Jan. 12. That happened one game after he scored 31 — the program’s first 30-point outing since 2003-04 — and grabbed nine boards against Texas-Pan American. Gabbidon is averaging 13.7 points (T-11th/SLC) and 6.7 rebounds (T-8th/SLC) per game this season, including 13.7 points (13th/SLC) and 8.3 boards (4th/SLC) in conference play. Johnson, a Philadelphia native and JUCO All-American at Barton County, missed all of last season with a stress reaction, but has made an immediate impact in his first 22 contests (missed Dec. 18 UTPA game with concussion). He ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game (T-13th/SLC) behind 42.2-percent shooting from beyond the 3-point line and has dished out a team-best 101 assists (4.6 avg; 3rd/SLC).

Model of Consistency: Senior Travis Gabbidon has been one of UTSA’s most consistent players in his two-year career. In his 37 games with the Roadrunners, the Phoenix native has reached double figures in scoring 30 times, including a career-best 31 against Texas-Pan American last year and a season-high 25 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He also has grabbed five or more rebounds 24 times, including a career high of 14 against Texas Wesleyan in 2007 and a season-high 12 versus Texas-Pan American on Jan. 21 and Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 7. His 234 career rebounds stand 44th (21st among players with two seasons or less) on UTSA’s career list. Gabbidon has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week twice this year (Jan. 5/Jan. 26).

Pinpoint Accuracy: Junior guard Omar Johnson has displayed pinpoint accuracy from beyond the 3-point line in his first season with the Roadrunners. The Philadelphia native had made 43-of-102 from behind the arc for 42.2 percent, which ranks fourth in the Southland Conference. Over the last three contests, Johnson has connected on 10-of-21 treys, or 47.6 percent.

Smith Finds His Stroke: Junior guard Morris Smith IV has found shooting stroke from downtown over the past three weeks. The St. Louis native drained seven 3-pointers in the 67-66 win at Lamar on Jan. 31 and has made 18 trifectas while averaging 17.6 points per game in the last five contests. Earlier this season, he enjoyed a seven-game stretch from Dec. 18-Jan. 10 in which he connected 19 times from behind the arc, including four long balls in the SMU win on Dec. 29.

No Shank Shots: Senior Joey Shank has been a consistent threat from behind the arc in his 51 games with the Roadrunners. Last year, the Folsom, Calif., native drained 67 threes, the sixth-best season in school history, and made three or more in a game 12 times. He put his name next to the program’s single-game record with eight treys in a win over Northwestern State last January and he nearly matched that effort with seven against Rice on Dec. 4 of this season, tallying a career-best 26 points in both contests. Shank, who has connected from downtown 51 times this year, is ninth on UTSA’s career chart with 118 threes (4th among two-year players). Additionally, his 36.5 career 3-point field goal percentage stands fifth in the school record book. This year, Shank is eighth in the Southland Conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.2).

Wiping The Glass: The junior duo of Josh Bonney and Demarco Stepter has made an immediate impact on the glass this season. Bonney, a native of White Castle, La., posted his first double-double in a UTSA uniform with 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in the 62-55 win at Nicholls and is averaging 4.7 boards per contest. He is averaging 8.3 points and 5.4 boards (19th) in SLC games. Stepter, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., ranks second on the team with a 6.0 rebounding average (16th/SLC). He is one of two Roadrunners and 13 league players with three or more double-doubles this season. He tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds against East Central, a season-high 15 points to go along with 11 boards against UMKC and 10 and 10 at SMU. He nearly posted his fourth with 10 points and nine rebounds in the double-overtime loss to Sam Houston State.

On The Tube: UTSA has at least eight regular season games scheduled for television this season. The Roadrunners already have played seven contests on the tube, dropping their first two at Oklahoma State (Cowboy Sports Network) and Iowa (Mediacom Connections) before winning four of the past five at UMKC (Metro Sports), at SMU (Time Warner Cable/Metro Sports), against Texas State (Time Warner Cable) and at Southeastern Louisiana (Southland TV). The Roadrunners dropped am 84-82 decision at UT Arlington on Southland TV on Feb. 14 and will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Time Warner Cable (Feb. 18).

Up Next: UTSA will travel to Huntsville to face Sam Houston State on Saturday, Feb. 21. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.

He smashes fertile women that like to party until 4AM. We've all done it. I don't know how much I can fault him unless he's setting up franchise families.
I never said I faulted him for that. I could care less if he hangs out with 4 stripper moms or the 4 utsa freaks.

My point was that he was babbling on and on about himself when none of us really could give a flip instead of babbling on about his school which none of us could give a flip about either.

"I'm a big sports fan.....look at me, I'm like Davey Crockett at the Alamo......I live in von Ormy near the battlefields.....I own a big company......I'm here to support my school..........yada yada yada"

only because you brought it up...we talked with some staff this morning, they have a few people up there "doing some stuff." it's heating up...

By David Flores - Express-News The search for UTSA's first football coach has moved north.

With their self-imposed deadline less than two weeks away, UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey and her staff started Tuesday the first of two days of interviews in Dallas with six of seven finalists for the job.

While there were indications former Miami head coach Larry Coker spoke with UTSA officials Tuesday, Mary Hardin-Baylor head coach Pete Fredenburg, who started the Crusaders' program in 1997, confirmed he had been interviewed.

“It was good,” Fredenburg, 61, said Tuesday night. “We just talked. It was pleasant and I enjoyed it. I'm very happy at Mary Hardin-Baylor, but any coach would have to be interested in the UTSA job. I just think that there's a great opportunity to develop a first-class program in a great city.”

Coker, 60, could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Earlier in the day, a woman answering the phone at his home in Fort Myers, Fla., said he wasn't home and wasn't expected until Tuesday night.

When asked if Coker was in Dallas interviewing for the UTSA job, the woman said, “I'm not at liberty to comment about that.”

A source at UTSA said Coker is a finalist and would be interviewed in Dallas.

Duke defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre, who served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys from 2003-06, is one of the candidates expected to be interviewed today. MacIntyre, 43, was on Bill Parcells' staff with the Cowboys and is highly regarded in the UTSA athletic department, the source said.

Longtime NFL assistant coach Bill Bradley, who lives in Spring Branch and has strong ties to Hickey and UTSA president Ricardo Romo, said Hickey has told him he would be interviewed in San Antonio later this week or early next week.

The iden ies of the three other finalists could not be confirmed. Hickey did not return a message left on her cell phone Tuesday afternoon, and her voice mailbox was full later.

Hickey and Romo have said they want to hire a coach by March 1. The Roadrunners kick off their first season in 2011 as an independent in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA.

Fredenburg, a former assistant coach at Baylor, LSU and Louisiana Tech, is 99-29 in 11 seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor and has led the Crusaders to the Division III playoffs seven times. Mary Hardin-Baylor lost in the 2004 le game.

Fredenburg coached 13 of his 14 seasons at Baylor under Grant Teaff, who along with former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slo is serving as a consultant in UTSA's coach search. He was also on New Braunfels Canyon's first staff in 1971, before moving to New Braunfels High in 1972.

“San Antonio is a great city to recruit to and there is great talent regionally,” Fredenburg said. “If the city will embrace this project, it will be an incredible venture.”

Coker, who guided Miami to the 2001 BCS national championship, confirmed two weeks ago that he had sent his résumé to Hickey and spoken with her by phone.

Coker led the Hurricanes to a national le in his first season as head coach and went 60-15 before getting fired in 2006. Miami won three Big East les in six seasons under Coker, who has been a college football analyst for ESPN the past two years.

I'm not sure what is in the UTSA water. I usually like lebomb as a poster and now he's going to pull this?

I've stayed out of it but this is getting beyond ridiculous now. UTSA fanbase is way out of line. They have such an inferiority complex that it's impossible for any type of civil conversation between UTSA fanbase and the outside world. It's just not going to happen.

And really, Kori was being nice about that 95% number. I think it's closer to 99%. A re ed amoeba could get accepted into UTSA with their current admissions policy. Has anyone heard of someone getting rejected by UTSA? I've never heard of that and I know someone who was turned down by SAC. UTSA is basically a giant community college. In fact, I never knew there was anyone proud of its sports programs until I saw a couple pop up on SpursTalk.

So yeah, if UTSA fan wants to fight fire with fire, let's go. I've sat idly long enough. You gonna call out the wife, you better get ready to defend that embarrassment of a so-called university that further makes San Antonio look like an uneducated cow town. As a neutral observer who doesn't give a fvck about any college, UTSA is a joke and the UTSA fanbase on SpursTalk is somehow turning into an even bigger joke.

Either grow the F up, stop talking UTSA sports or settle down and try to act like fans of a school that has an actual admissions process. I give UT fans a lot of ish but I've never seen them act like a bunch of sissies like the UTSA fanbase following the birth of their football team.

F UTSA and F the UTSA fanbase if they can't get their mind right.
I just had to bump this again, damn UTSA fans got worked!!

It is odd to me. I have never seen this from a school that isnt a "major school". I graduated from a school that had a baseball and volleyball team, but I wasnt delusional. I knew they werent a major school so if they got a football team I would make fun of them myself. Im sorry but any school that has over 90% admissions is a joke. I know some people that graduated and got into UTSA and all that tells me is that they take ANYONE. These guys wonder why they got trolled so hard and because of that they got trolled harder and its all come to this. Some of them say they will not stop supporting their school and im sure the people that laugh at them will not stop making fun of them (myself included). Anyways carry on, its been funny.
